Vic
Group A: Chile, England, New Zealand, Nigeria Group B: China PR, Argentina, France, USA Group C: Canada, Japan, Congo DR, Germany Group D: Mexico, Norway, Brazil, Korea DPR Not a bad draw. Not the soft Group A, but better than B or D. Germany are UEFA champs (1-0 over England), but Congo are the weaker CAF representative and Japan are AFC runner's up (0-1 to Korea). The Ref
As usual the CSA site is mute. Considering they must approve all international travel it just goes to show these CSA people couldn't care less for women soccer.
Richard
From September 11, 2008 Canadian U-20s off preparing for Chile 2008 There will be a report on the CSA site I am sure, typically any delays other than time zone differences are the result of the need for French/English translation. And Ref it would be helpful if you would follow site policy and include a link to your information source.

Vic
Game day 2 results: Canada 1 - New Zealand 1 CANADA (1): Erin MCNULTY, Shannon WOELLER, Miryam BOUCHARD, Kaylyn KYLE, Julie ARMSTRONG, Allysha CHAPMAN, Alyssa LEGONIA (-46’ Mallory OUTERBRIDGE -86’ Karla SCHACHER), Monica LAM-FEIST (-59’ Paige ADAMS), Jonelle FILIGNO, Chelsea STEWART ©, Rachel GOULDING (-46’ Amanda ROBINSON). UNUSED: Alexandra MARTON, Eden HINGWING, Tina ROMAGNUOLO, Anoop JOSAN, Justine BERNIER, Stephanie PAZAZZO NEW ZEALAND (1): Victoria ESSON, Ria PERCIVAL (-86’ Annalie LONGO), Anna GREEN (-46’ Betsy HASSET), Katie HOYLE, Abby ERCEG, Caitlin CAMPBELL, Renee LEOTA (-59’ Sarah MCLAUGHLIN), Hannah WALL, Merissa SMITH (-46’ Bridgette ARMSTRONG), Rosie WHITE, Elizabeth MILNE. UNUSED: Briony FISHER, Charlotte WOOD, Grace VINCENT Goals: Myriam BOUCHARD (71), Rosie WHITE (79) * Close game, midfield battle, Canada had the edge in the first half, more balance in the second. Both goals were a result of defensive mistakes. Canadian corner was mishandled by the Kiwis, and quick counter brought them equal. Chile 2 - Mexico 1 * In the final game Saturday, Canada must defeat Chile to steal the tournament from them. Again, not bad for an unranked Chilean program. terpfan68
I heard a rumor the other day that several (read two) of the under 20 players who are also on the National team will not be going to Chile because of prior committments. Has anyone else heard that? I notice that the current team has been having trouble scoring although their defense seems to be tighter.
RamblinMan
My understanding is that there is only one U20/WNT player (playing at Portland) who chose to commit to her NCAA year. I don't believe this is "news".

The Ref
We all know by now that Birarda is history, never to be heard from again. Bridge has taken over with gusto and is departing today with the team heading to Santiago. I understand they will play a prep game with England on Friday. Wish them well, no injuries, no red cards. The Ref
Can't blame the CSA for not being optimistic as in their U20 WC page they have at the top Canada playing in every game, group, quarter finals and finals. Atta boy!
