Working class kids are not allowed to play for the Canadian national team. I think it was Dale Mitchell who decided that.

I am surprised you did not know that.

Sorry, but the original poster is a troll that only posts about Daniel Fernandes.

If he likes him so much he should go find a Portuguese fan forum to celebrate his achievement of turning his back on Canadian soccer.

Or at the very least post in the World Soccer forum, where there already is a thread on him.

I'm tired of this bullshit.

Yo man! If Im a fan of Fernandes does that make u in title to be mad? Is this a SUPPORTER page or did I get it wrong? Maybe u should fins a different forum buddy!

This forum is about CANADA MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM players. Fernandes is part of the PORTUGAL TEAM. So, your post doesn't belong to this section. Thanks.

You can delete it now!

Massive Attack: Stop attacking me for beeing a fan :D

The hole f..n point is that hes not but that he still represent Canada. Seems to me like there is no interest in him from he Canadian people and I think thats weak considering that he is a Canadian and he IS REPRESENTING his home! If u are a fan of Canadian Soccer and Canadian soccer players then u also would get my comment.

TD FOREVER: just put up with it. Dani has some fans on this board (one here) who think he was basically shut out by the CSA. He is putting East Van on the map. Good luck to him.

But you have to be sensitive to many fans here who think he is a traitor to Canada because he did not fly to Canada on his own dime and pitch a tent outside "Dale Yallop's" camps to plead his way onto our senior team.

You can follow Dani's Bundesliga season right here as I post pretty much weekly on all the Canucks in Germany (Dani included), but I won't be talking about his Portugal gigs.

Massive Attack is right that this belongs elsewhere, Dani has committed to Portugal, is capped, and is very likely to get a few starts vs. the weaker opposition in this WC qualifying campaign.

Think Dani grew up in Fraserview, really south-east Vancouver.

Hater!!!

im not sure why but he was never called for canada and then got fed up.

But he was called by Mitchell. He was part of the training camps in preparation for for the U20 WC. But he was dropped in a numbers game. And, Alim Karim played extremely very well. cant fault the coaches on this one. Karim led us to ¼ final place.

To all you who BELIVE that Fernandes us a traitor:

My reason for supporting him:

I asked him! After fighting with another fan I got a hold of his profile on myspace and contacted him. I asked him "Why not Canada" and he replied:

"They didnt ask me. I was in contact with them cause I had been called up before but they just stopped calling me for national team. Then one day Portugal came along and I responded with a yes." Following by a call up form Canada AFTER his "debut" in Portugal.

He never told me if he had ever played for Canada.

I can't recall if he ever played in a game that would cap him. I don't think he did. He went over to Germany with our future U20's prior to the 2003 WC (winter 2002?, I'm thinking) and he was fantastic for our team but never got on with Dale Mitchell and Dale Mitchell must have put the word with Frank Yallop.

Back when I still had Jono as a "friend" on Facebook , I remember seeing a picture posted on his profile where he was wearing some sort of Dutch gear. Anyway, Thunder Dan had posted a comment saying something to the effect of, "right on. let's show Canada what it's missing out on."

The point is, whereas guys like the Whore and Jono seem pretty apathetic about the Canadian program and the issues that supposedly pushed them away, Daniel seems to carry a legitimate grudge. Reading that comment, I got the impression that he truly did want to play for Canada, and while his two ship-jumping compatriots were only too happy to use CSA disfunction as a convenient excuse to further their careers, Dan is still hurting from the snub. I think he really wanted to suit up for Canada.

Dani has pretty well put it behind him I think, though I recall emails from him with I WANT TO BE A CANADA KEEPER written just like that. We had our chance, not a lot of years of him being an obvious call-up, maybe not even a few months.

But you have to appreciate that you move forwards as a pro, he certainly has, and he moved forward internationally as well, he was impatient and hungry for success and was not willing to wait any longer. I think he should have, but he didn't. But if you look at the kid now playing in Bundesliga and third keeper for Portugal you have to admit his intuitions were pretty good. He has also been a bit lucky and some people, like his Greek coaches in Van who got him the Paok tryout, have been very kind to him.

Mitchell was not one of those people, I frankly think he was intimidated by Dani's cockiness.

I am sick and tired of coaches with no reputation labelling real talent as not required, too cocky etc. I won't go into it here but I could post a few things about how OH was handled that have never come out. Gotta wait for some people to die first.
