5-0 Mexico, if we cant beat a **** team at home we have no hope against Mexico in Mexico, I really believe Canada will finish last in the group without a single win

..................................................

There are many variables in sport, especially football, and many of these are psychological. Actually, at this level, psychology is perhaps the most important variable.

Why do you think United States always beats Mexico? It isn't because they are a better squad overall, or even because they match up well with the Mexicans. It comes down to Psychology. Mexico is a footballing nation, United States isn't--so it's almost insulting for them to let the American's "beat them at their own game". That's why Mexico loses, because they put unessacary pressure on themselves.

Now, I'm not applying this directly to Canada vs Mexico, but you get the point--you must consider the psychology of both teams.

Canada

-playing superior opponent

-underdogs

-nothing to lose (basiclly eliminated)

-visting team

Mexico

-playing inferior opponent

-favroites

-expected to win at home

-alraedy have 6 points

This is the recipe for upset. Open your eyes. Not saying an upset is certain, it just means that all the ingredients are there. What really matters is if this team has enough character, and I think we do! As Craig Forest said, "this group has a legetimate confidence about them, it's not a false confidence".

I would bet on a 2-1 or 1-0 win before I bet on a loss.

Consider this, If your Mexico, what Motivation do you have to preform well? Your playing the only team who appears to be clearly eliminated. Your playing CANADA for christ sakes! They call the beautiful game soccer up there. Pathetic. They don't even have a professional league up there. AND...they only have one single player in La Liga.

.....If I were Mexico I wouldn't exactly fear Canada.

Consider this, If your Canada, what Motivation do you have to preform well? Your playing the top team in the group and the regional Powerhouse--MEXICO. They have a squad full of players at European clubs--but so do we! We can deffinatly play with them, and we can show them and the rest of CONCACAF that we aren't the weakest team in the Group of death. We are basiclly out now, so what difference does it make if we lose, lets go out and play without any inhibitions.

.....If I were Canada, I would likley play the best game of the whole qualifier tomorrow.

Believe me, Mexico is not underestimating Canada. I am living in Mexico and not only do they not underestimate Canada, they consider us to be the second best team in the group (so I've been told). They also want to exact revenge for the "Chavez" disaster, where the Mexican team was eliminated from going to the Olympics by Canada. Chavez was the coach who after the loss got fired.

I thought that was Hugo Sanchez? In any event, while we helped to eliminate them, we only drew them 1-1 in the first game - the team that really did them damage was Guatemala.

As for tomorrow night, a loss might actually help us more than a draw in a strange way. Mexico will have 9 points and then will play Jamaica, who they should beat even in Jamaica. That will render their next two games meaningless, including their game against us. If we can return the favour in Honduras (where we haven't lost since they beat us on a clearly off-side goal in 1981) we'd have four points to Honduras' six with two games against teams that are likely dis-interested (Mexico already qualified and Jamaica already eliminated by the final game). How's that for optimism?

But all things considered, I'd take a draw in a heartbeat and will re-watch the game a thousand times before I die if we win.

Yeah you are absolutely right about Sanchez... sorry I got the name screwed up (I was just recalling a story from a Mexican friend). He also told me that Canada beat Mexico 2-0? But maybe he was wrong. Anyhow, the point that I can garner from many Mexican supporters is that they are not underestimating Canada. So let's hope for a result, but it will be tough.

Problem with that is Honduras will also have two games left against disinterested teams. And if gets to the final game where we need a win + Honduras loss against the Mexican Z team, well that's not good.

Honduras will have a disinterested Mexican team in the last game, but a desperate Jamaican team grasping to their last breath in the 5th MD and that could be the difference if we can pull off wins in San Pedro Sula and Edmonton.

He definitely was. Can't ever remember a Canadian team at any level on the men's side beating Mexico by that scoreline.
