MastaK
6-1-1 in our last 8 USL games if I'm not mistaken. 11-10-5 overall. Byers did what we needed him to do, great game. What was once an atrocious season is now becoming a pretty good one...(don't know if I say this correctly, hard to translate this from french)

Richard
"What was once an atrocious season is now becoming a pretty good one" What a difference a coaching change can make, similar effect in Vancouver with the Thordarson era - hello CSA, are the lights on in Ottawa!!! Grizzly
Portland was probably tired as this was their third game in five days. This was the weakest performance from a visiting team all year. Even with them down two goals in the second half they hardly attacked or threatened to score. I was sceptical at first but Byers really seems to have been a good acquisition. The pitch was as poor as usual in recent games, for whatever reason the roots of the grass don't seem to have taken hold. There will be a break at Stade Saputo of more than a week before the next home game so hopefully the pitch will improve somewhat.
Richard
^ If the grass has not sent down roots since the turf was first laid, what makes you think it will do so in a week!

He doesn't accelerate but once he gets momentum he seems to be able to do damage. Suzuki was getting upset that we kept booing him by name everytime he got the ball along the South side. I hate to take all the credit for the win but.... let's face it....[8D]

It's not, but they'll have time to work on it to try to improve things. Last night it held a little bit better I thought. Maybe because of the heavy rain we got 2 hours before the game. Still was a war zone, but a little better anyway.

Guest Ed
Great turn around by the Impact (who this Westerner picked VERY EARLY ON to retain their stranglehold on the Voyageurs Cup). Good luck down the stretch. Montreal's success can only be a good thing for soccer nationwide.
Free kick
quote:Originally posted by Moutinho28 Maybe we shouldn't talk about that, this topic will turn in another "Montréal-Bashing" topic... But how so? Maybe he ( like I )am curious to know if it improved and was better. No one in their right mind would say that the pitch was good on Saturday, but how is that reflect badly on the city, you as fans or otherwise. Nobody is bashing Montreal by asking about it. It was explained already, that the weather this summer had something to do with it. Its just a statement of fact. I think that everyone accepted that. Richard
quote:Originally posted by Kurosawa it won't. what it needs is a rest for the winter. The grass is dormant during the winter, very little if any growth so that won't doo much for the condition of the pitch. How much does your front lawn in Montreal grow during the winter? Kurosawa1555362267
Not at all but in the spring they won't play until may like they do every year and that will help a lot.
tmcmurph
Great turnaround by the Impact. The recent additions are producing and the coaching seems better suited to the team. Now if you could just bump off the Puerto Rico Islanders for us Looking forward to the games against Seattle and especially the Caps. You took 2 from us in the Voyageur's Cup so we owe you one. See you in the playoffs after that.

Like Eric said the grass won't set roots in a week but the pitch will still be in better condition than if they were playing on it every three days like they have been recently. Richard
^ At the start of the game it will look pretty, but 20 minutes in and it will be a mess again. Replacing divets and laying new patches of turf will improve the initial cosmetic appearance but will do nothing to stabilise the turf, that is a long term process that relies on mother nature. The horticulturalists may be able to do something to stimulate root growth and penetration but that won't happen in a week or a month or even a winter/spring season. We know that Richard, but thanks for the lecture anyway. Last Friday, the pitch didn't last 2 minutes. If it lasts 20 minutes, it'll be an improvement. Richard
^ Your reprimand is duly noted. You might already know what I wrote of but clearly the poster to whom I was responding (and that was not you in case you hadn't noticed) did not fully understand the situation. Perhaps after reading my post he/she will have a slightly better grasp. I note you have done little to explain the situation despite your criticism of me. Yes Richard, as you state I am clearly completely ignorant about how grass grows. Thankfully we have such a grass expert as you on this board to enlighten us all. Thanks to you I now fully understand the situation of the pitch I have been watching all season from about two meters distance.
Richard
OK guys, you don't like to admit it and are obviously very sensitive when reminded but the SS pitch is a complete disaster and until it becomes properly established and ready for the big time international games should be played elsewhere, even the FieldTurf at BMO Field would be a much better option.
