stevieeatworld
I am pretty much going out on a limb here but the average fan let alone citizen is usually un aware that a Canada WCQ is even going on. Have we ever tried taking some matters into our own hands such as making posters and tagging the city before hand? I would definitely be down for it if someone would design a poster promoting the game. You always see posters for concerts and such on certain street poles, why not for a soccer match? This wouldnt hurt and would definitely help us get more of a pro-canadian crowd.
I_AM_CANADIAN
I could design a poster for it, no problem. In fact, I'll get cracking on it tomorrow, and you guys can see what you think.
paul-toronto
General interest will come when we have well publicized games. Right now, everything seems like a last minute programming change on sportsnet. I am sure the Mexico game does not show up on any TV listings. Until that changes (hopefully a better broadcaster), not much interest will be generated. Of course a winning team will help a lot more. I guess that might be the heart of the issue; Canada has to be able to qualify for the WCQ for this country's soccer team to be taken seriously by the media/broadcasters/public. I_AM_CANADIAN
That's why I was so desparate about us qualifying this time around. This is like Canada's golden generation of players, the game has already been taking huge steps forward these last two years, if we qualify for the World Cup football's popularity in this country would explode. sinhaya
This is a crazy idea and I welcome all thoughts. Why don't we write to George Strombopolous of the Hour (CBC programme) and ask him to consider interviewing JDG, Rob Friend, etc... We need to write a letter outlining the following: - our players play for some of the best teams in the world yet they receive scant publicity back home. - our boys fly in from Europe to wear the red and white yet they receive little credit or attention from the media - our boys are model citizens abroad and are real ambassadors for Canada. - a chance for the players to voice their frustration with the CSA and a chance for them to speak about the paths they have taken to reach Europe -------------- Writing is not my strong suit by the way... Hey. I think Strombo might actually do that, he likes under-the-radar stuff. And he likes the underdog. He could even get Serioux/Deguz/DeRo on and theme the interview around the rapid growth of soccer in Canada, complete with highlight clips for club and country Oh man that would be sweet. sinhaya
How do we do this? Who is the media liason for the Voyageurs? One very important question: Are the players gagged by the CSA?

One very important question: Are the players gagged by the CSA? I have seen DeGuzman be fairly critical in interviews but that was when the team was fairly dormant last season. De Vos was critical before he retired but wasn't getting called up anyways. Good question. JohnTV says he's the media guy.
