footballfreak
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. Apparently Honduras is hosting their qualifying matches this round at the Francisco Morazan Stadium in SPS rather than the larger Olímpico Metropolitano. Francisco morazan only holds 18,000 compared to 40,000 at the Olimpico, but there is no athletics track between the fans and the players.[xx(] http://www.fussballtempel.net/concacaf/HON/Francisco_Morazan.html That main stand looks pretty intimidating. jpg75
Home stadium of Real Espana: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estadio_Francisco_Morazan I saw a Real Espana-Marathon match on GolTV played in this stadium, it was pissing rain and the field was waterlogged. Good news is one end of the field has no stands behind it so atleast Onstad (or whoever else is in net) will only get abused for 45 minutes
footballfreak
The stadium is also right in the middle of Hell... er, San Pedro Sula, while the Olympic Stadium is on the outskirts of town. Better charter a bus with bullet-proof glass.
Whither Canada
Gotta love that fifteen-foot fence around the perimeter. Topped with barbed wire, no doubt.

The stadium is undergoing renovations turning it into an all seater I believe, I should have an article on the renos to look up.. Actually downtown is pretty good, there is the Gran Sula hotel within walking distance, plus ... a nice central, while okay central plaza with a big Mickey D's. You will see a police presence there. I am little bagged having just flown in from San Pedro Sula will hit the Peel Pub for a few energy beers.... will the Maudite be cold ? PS... Honduran papers say between 3000 and 8000 fans are expected, I think its the 3000 number, the proper term to use to those wearing the Honduran jersys... would seem to be PUTA... but I will let the Spanish language experts confirm that...or of course we could simple chant PUTA, PUTA, diez lemperias....
