"But it's something we're not focused on. quote: "It's a home game and you don't get many opportunities to do this at home with a good crowd," said de Guzman. "We're going to use this to our advantage to have a good performance and more importantly, get a good result. "Everyone believes it's like a final for us. We're not in panic mode, but we have to play at 100 per cent. There's no time for errors."
masster
A couple of points on that article: -It looks like Sutton might not be available for the game. Thats a good thing if you ask me. -If the pitch is in such terrible condition, why are they practicing on it all week. I think there is some sort of rule where both teams need to have at least one training session, but if it is so bad, just stay at CCR and let the pitch recover. VPjr
^ Canada has practiced away from Stade Saputo for the most part this week. I think they were at CCR for 1 or 2 days and then at another facility on Wednesday.
trueviking
i am a firm believer in letting the jono thing die a peaceful death, but that is a very odd comment by someone who knows exactly what his feelings are...if he were completely committed, why would julian not say that...very weird. if he still has hope that they might play together, there must be some validity to it...he would know more than anyone if there is doubt in his future....maybe if canada makes the hex, jono will jump ship again. Lord Bob
Yeah, as much as I'd love Julian to knock Jonothan out, drag him to a Canada match, and roll his unconscious body onto the pitch as a 90th-minute substitute in order to cap him, that ship has sailed. Still. Can't blame JDG1 for being hopeful. He still hasn't given up on his brother, and good on him.
SportingFC
quote:Originally posted by Massive Attack Why do they keep teasing us? Judas has until September 12 of this year to apply to FIFA to switch to Canada. Its over, lets move on. I know what you mean.. But it ain't done yet. 1% chance is all I need. Judas has until September 12 of this year to apply to FIFA to switch to Canada. Its over, lets move on. I didn't know that was the way it worked, I thought it was just until he got a full senior cap for the Netherlands.[?] FIFA have some pretty strange rules. I really think FIFA should do something about players defecting to countries they weren't born in. Living in Holland doesn't suddenly make you Dutch at heart last time I checked. I really think FIFA should do something about players defecting to countries they weren't born in, didn't grow up in and previously had nothing to do with. If JDG2 had emigrated there when he was ten or something, then I could see it being fair. He moved there when he was 12 years old I believe to improve his career. Yeah, I forgot about that. my bad. Still, I don't think it's right. You didn't see Alexander Hleb defecting to another country, and he plays for Belarus, who have even less of a chance to make the World Cup than we do. There are countless other examples. Obinna
quote:Originally posted by Massive Attack I can understand why Judas has chosen Holland. I just wish he would stop dicking us around. That's all. Nobody is dicking anybody around right now, nothing in this article indicates he may play for us. Does anyone realisticly think he will switch to Canada by next week? Judas has until September 12 of this year to apply to FIFA to switch to Canada. Its over, lets move on. As far as I understand the rules, your right, he has until Sept. 12th to switch back to Canada. I can see after the Dutch had a horrible Olympics, they were favoured to medal, that Jono might be thinking that it is not such a great idea to play for the most underachieving nation in the history of the sport. Anyway, if he really cares about the fans here in Canada, I think he should have some sort of official press release so we can know what he is thinking and why he really made his decision. What we have heard to date has been rather lame. Who knows, maybe the guy really does want to play for Canada, I think he would be more self-satisfied to play on a team with his brother then for a nation that is so cut-throat about its football team and basically ends up causing its players to "choke" at international events. Obinna
quote:Originally posted by Massive Attack So you're saying Julian's quote isn't a big tease? It is a big tease only beacuase we are so desperate for him we approach these articles with wishfull thinking. When I first read the article, I was teased, as usual. Thought that there may be hope, as usual. But then when I re-read it, I realized that I had just read too much into Julian's quote. I believe he was just stating the facts regarding the situation with his brother. JULIAN'S QUOTE: "He ended up playing for Holland at the Olympics FACT: He played with holland's U-23's during the olympics. JULIAN'S QUOTE: "It doesn't mean he's locked down with the national team" FACT: He has not been capped at the senior level with Holland. JULIAN'S QUOTE: "But it's something were not focused on". FACT: Focusing on Jonothan's situation won't help the team prepare for Honduras We only fool ourselves if we think Julian is trying to give us hints that aren't there. redhat
His little brother is Dutch. He lived there long enough, and speaks Dutch. He played for the Orange in Beijing. We know what's next.
Ruud
Wow - Julian has a future as a PR guy or perhaps as a Politician. Saying a lot without saying anything at all. Anyway, for what it's worth, the Guardian Football journalists, whilst lamenting his red card last week, lauded him for his play at the Olympics. We will outrun and outplay Honduras tomorrow with or without brother Jon. Free flowing footy - giddy up!
