Imhof Must Start

The thing is, which Bernier will show up? The one who did a quality job in front of the back line a year ago vs Costa Rica at BMO, moving the ball well with the pass as well as the dribble, when necessary? Or the guy who gave the ball away with three horrendous passes in a row within a five minute spell in the second half vs South Africa?

Fair point. I think we're going to have to take some risks to beat Honduras. But if we have Imhof on the bench it will be much less of a worry. Mitchell can bring him on, if we build up a lead, or if Bernier is playing a South Africanesque game.

Starting 11

Keeper: Someone who can stop the ball

Staltieri ...Serioux....Hastings......Kluko

...........Imoff..........Bernier...........

Atiba............DeGuzman..............Dero

...................Gerba....................

Yes Friend plays in the bigger league but the chemistry between Dero and Gerba last 3 games is sick.Imoff and Bernier back there will free up our 3 most talented players to create for themselves and Gerba.

With Dero,Hutch,Julian...the skipper can shift these 3 all over the pitch where he finds the mismatch and have Dero and Atiba atack all day.

Can we say Dale is on the hot seat if the boyz can not bag the 3pts??

If Imhof doesn't start it will be a f*cking crime. He will shut down Honduras's midfield. He has the ability to keep someone like Guevara quiet, which will be critical for that entire game. There is no reason that he, McKenna, and Friend shouldn't all be on the pitch at kick off.

If Serioux starts now that he has a yellow card I will seriously begin questioning Mitchell's logistics. Also, I very much want to see Brennan out there as well, although I think he should come on as a sub. He should have in TO.

I am in favour of this move as well. We obviously need someone who can hold back there to free up Julian.

But we also need the mids to support Julian a bit more. I would like to see Atiba pick up his pace a bit, he seems to coast at times.

I agree with Javier that we need more control in the middle, but for that to happen we have to see:

-someone at centre back with the confidence to make the pass forward into the middle.

-the outside backs to be keyed into moving the ball ahead in possession, I hate it when you see Stalteri and worse Kluka drifting forwards and not offering themselves for the wide pass from the centre backs in case the mids coming back are covered. This is from years of playing on teams where the centre backs do not look for the pass out, so they figure it will just be hoofed up and they don't have to participate in the play.

-whoever is playing in the middle to be offering themselves for the pass. In general this is what I missed vs. Jamaica, there should always be two options for any mid with the ball to make a sure pass, apart from sending it back and starting again.

I'd add to this that I think it is time to see a different sort of striking combo, namely Hume in support of one of the target strikers. Preferably Friend. Hume as the connecting piece behind and around Friend.

If we have Hume with Friend we could play without either Radz or DeRo. I know this is not popular, but since neither did the job last game and we absolutely have to get a goal and get ahead vs. Honduras, I'd stack the middle with more classic mids behind a two-man striking team. So either DeRo or Issey on the left, Atiba up on the right, Julian in the middle backed by Imhof, and Friend and Hume up front.

I've been saying for a long time that Canada's fullbacks need to be more involved going forward. A DM, really gives cover for the wide fullbacks to get forward. Thats why I think Brennan and Stalteri would be good options there, because they are both converted midfielders. Klukowski is a better defender than Brennan, but Brennan is better going forward. Its a tough decision. I think alternating between the two, depending on the game plan may also be the way to go.

Yeah, he looks like he's coasting at times, but I wonder if it's because he has to mind his defensive positioning more? If, in fact, he has the license to push forward like he did for most of the GC last year, then I would support your assessment.

But if we want to take the game to Honduras, do you really think he can move the ball quick enough for us to play a fast posession game in the midfield. Not keep passing the ball around the back four which seems to happen too often with this set of players.

He can do it. I've seen him make long, penetrating passes along the ground to teammates making forward runs while playing for Bochum last year.

Please. Your name is Brennan fan. Klukowski is better than Brennan in every way, you did watch the Brazil match?

How do we know that Brennan would not have played as well during that match?

Klukowski was weak in the Jamaica match. I wouldn't be against putting Brennan in LB, he's got a good rapport with De Ro, and adds that extra dimension going forward.

That said, I'm comfortable with Kluka there, as long as the Jamaica match was an anomaly.

I am also for Brennan replacing Kluk. For me, the key factor is Brennan is in mid-season form but the European seasons are just starting. Use as many good MLS players for the early September games and that means adding Jazic for the injured Issey. In goal give Sutton a try before turning to Lars. Sutton had a few great games this year...and of course he is in mid-season form.

paul sorry, but that does not make sense in the case of a keeper, i would start hirschfeld , only because of onstad mistake, if this round were more than 6 games round, i would have kept onstad.. but they are only 5 must win games for each of the 4 teams

Brennan would probably have played better vs. Jamaica since he is used to Field Turf but I am 90% sure he couldn't cover Robinho the way Kluk did.

When I see him do it for Canada. I'll finally stop pushing Bernier's name around, but for the moment I still think we should start Bernier against Honduras.
