Grizzly
Pre-Game Meeting
The Pre-Game Meeting will occur at the Peel Pub (1196 Peel Street - 514 844 7296 - http://www.peelpub.com) and McLean's Pub (a few doors down at 1210 Peel Street - 514 392 7770 - http://www.mcleanspub.com). The official start time will be 1 pm though a few Voyageurs may arrive earlier than this. Everyone try to arrive as early as possible, we want to make this a big success and show our presence downtown. The intial arrivals should go to the Peel Pub. We have the second floor reserved for us and they are going to make a big table along one wall (once enough of us are there). They can accomodate between 80 and 100 of us and once they start to fill up I will start sending people to McLean's where we will also have the second floor. Very Important: No Minors are allowed in the Peel Pub but they are allowed in McLean's up to 8 pm as long as they are accompanied by an adult. If people with minors are arriving early, I will make sure to send some others to McLean's so you are not alone. The TFC game will be shown at both bars. McLean's will have a beer special for us, a three litre beer tower for $22. Getting to the bars is very easy as Peel Street is in the heart of downtown Montreal. As the map below shows, Peel Street is about a 5 minute walk from the train station (Gare Centrale). Anyone arriving at the bus station should take the Green Line to Peel Metro Station and you will be right on Peel street. Anyone that ends up on the Orange Line could get off at Bonaventure Metro Station.
The March
I would like the march to start at 18:15 which will hopefully give us enough time between the end of the TFC game to pay our bills, use the washroom, etc. We will meet at Place du Canada, a park very near the bars which has a war memorial and statues of former Prime Ministers. This was the location of the Unity Rally during the last referendum and also the location of the Montreal Rememberance Day Ceremony each year. Thus, I think a suitable symbolic location for the start of the march. I would like to get some pictures taken with us in front of the monument before we start marching. We will march along Peel street, turn right on Ste. Catherine and march to the McGill metro station. We will then try to all take the same subway to Pie IX metro station. If this is not possible the first group to arrive at Pie IX will wait for the next group. From Pie IX metro station we will then march together through the Olympic Park to Stade Saputo. We have been notified by the CSA that we will be able to take our flagpoles and other paraphenalia into Stade Saputo. Those who have tickets at the box office to pick up, please wait until the march is officially over before getting in the ticket pickup line. I do not want the march to start breaking up just as we are arriving at the stadium where we want to really make a good display. If you are able to get pickup your tickets earlier so much the better.
Post-Game Meeting
McLean's (1210 Peel Street - 514 392 7770 - http://www.mcleanspub.com) is now confirmed as the location for the post-game meeting.
Key Points
- Everyone should be wearing red. If you do not have a Canada jersey wear a red t-shirt. Red Voyageurs t-shirts will be on sale for very reasonable prices at the pubs before the game. Do not wear club jerseys or t-shirts. This includes not only Canadian clubs but those from other countries as well. We need to start a tradition that if you are wearing a soccer jersey at a Canada match, it is a Canada soccer jersey. I want a march of guys in Canada red not Liverpool and ManU red. If anyone is offended by this let me just say that my own father was the first one to hear this policy when he suggested wearing a European soccer jersey I had given him as a gift. - Try and buy your Metro Tickets beforehand. We don't want to be waiting at the station while 50 guys buy Metro tickets. They cost $2.75 or are 6 for $12. - Minor's must go to McLean's, they are not permitted at Peel Pub. - It is preferrable for people in groups to pay as a group. It will make it easier for bar staff and also speed up how fast we can leave the bar. Try and pay a bit before the TFC game ends so we can leave quickly. - Do not leave the march until it is officially ended. We need a big show of unity at the stadium more than anywhere else. djcuse
So Bar 99 is completely out of the picture for the March now?
Grizzly
quote:Originally posted by djcuse So Bar 99 is completely out of the picture for the March now? Yes, Bar 99 is out of the picture. I actually think the new march route is better. The only difficulty will be the coordination of getting everyone on and off the subway at the same time. Massive Attack
Thanks for your work Grizzly. Does anyone know if this Peel Pub has any relation to the Peel Pub that use to exist on King St. in Toronto? Or is this a pure coincidence of name? If the ownership was not 100% the same then the idea was. I'd not been to Montreal for a couple of years until the St. VaG game and was saddened to find out that the old downstairs Peel Pub was gone and a new one had opened. On the bright side the new location is a little more up-market, brighter and cleaner. S.

Last week I managed to get my Canada flag (on a 10' pole) to the game and back by TTC...that's two subways, two streetcars and one bus. Yes, it was actually kind of fun. S. Daniel
*I'd recommend that people by their metro ticket in advance (2.75$, 6 for 12$), before going to Peel Pub. It will save you a hassle. Thankfully, a new (and by new I mean like this week) automated system for purchasing tickets is in operation. Grizzly
I am considering lengthening the downtown portion of the march. If we only march to Peel metro station that is pretty short. I am thinking of marching down Ste. Catherine to McGill or even Place des Arts metro. Probably McGill station would be better. There is a pretty good entrance to this station on Ste. Catherine. Any opinions?

You're the boss Grizz...when you say enough is enough, we'll jump on the Metro and re-emerge at Pie IX.
Grizzly
We can't really start before 6 because of the TFC game. After the game it will take some time for everyone to pay their bill. I think we will plan to march to the McGill metro station but if we have time, the march is going well and the police are not giving us any problem we could spontaneously decide to lengthen it another metro station or two.
