kmacphee
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Feyenoord's tough-tackling Jonathan de Guzman as the ideal midfield foil for playmaker Cesc Fabregas. However, the Canadian-born 20-year-old will cost up to £12m. (The Sun)

kmacphee
My mistake! Way too early this morning to be reading/writing. I absolutley missed "Feyenord" and was totally thinking Julian. If the mods could delete the entire thread, I would be happy. Sorry.

I may have only watched a half-dozen of his games or so, but i can't think of ever once seeing him make a hard tackle. And 12M Pounds? I thought the buyout in his contract was only 10M Euros? bettermirror
THIS from 4thegame.com! Who? - Jonathan De Guzman - Quite likely Where is he? - Feyenoord Who is he linked with? - Arsenal Feyenoord midfielder Jonathan De Guzman is on the verge of joining Arsenal, according to reports. The 20-year-old has been compared to Owen Hargreaves, and Arsene Wenger hopes he will offer protection to Cesc Fabregas in the Gunners' midfield. The Frenchman is thought to have offered £12million for him, and they look set to land him ahead of Everton, who are also interested. De Guzman has been with the Feyenoord senior team since 2005, having played in their junior side since 1999. In January, he acquired Dutch citizenship and made his debut for Holland's Under-21s in March. ERM, why exactly do Arsenal believe JDG2 is a defensive midfielder!?!?!?!?!? I wonder if they have him mixed up with Julian!?

I agree, I read this on Football365 and was confused. I think the newspapers linking him with a move have the two brothers mixed up. I haven't heard anything directly from anyone related to the arse, so I have a feeling it is just some reporter not really knowing what he is talking about and just putting out a random rumour to satisfy his boss. VPjr
Man City and Everton are also being strongly linked to Jono. feyenoord is gonna cash in nicely, no matter who gets his name on a contract and Jono is going to cash a nice cheque too

Soju
^Sums it up nicely. I thought JDG2 was more of a #10 in the play maker role than a holding mid?
VPjr
Latest from Setanta website http://setantasports.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/08/28/EredivisiePrem-De-Guzman-agent-on-chances-of-a-move/?facets/sport-space/football/great-britain-locale/ Feyenoord star Jonathan de Guzman is unlikely to make a move to The Premier League this summer, his agent has stated. The 20-year-old midfielder has been linked with both Arsenal and Everton of late, with a switch to either appearing to be on the horizon after the player’s admittance that the prospect of a move to England interested him. However, Jan de Visser has revealed that he believes the chances of a switch are now slim as the Eredivisie side’s valuation of the Holland international exceeds what his suitors are willing to pay. “I don’t expect a transfer of Jonathan this summer,” De Visser said. “The price that Feyenoord ask for him is too much for the interested clubs. And the closer you come to the end of the transfer window, the more expensive he will get.”

I think that only gives him a couple months. But never mind, apparently he's dutch now[xx(]
SCF08
Feyenoord have rejected a 10 million Euro bid from Manchester City on the 1st of September. They want more money... He scored a goal from a free-kick again for the Holland U21s on Friday against Norway. In the league things are not going so well for him. In Feyenoord's opening game he received a red card for elbowing a opponent who kept holding his shirt...resulting in a 4 match ban. He will be playing in the Uefa Cup on the 18th when Feyenoord take on Kalmar FF (League leaders of Sweden)
