Derosario23
I was as angry as anyone when I saw Pat's own goal.. One good thing about this is that it has set me up for a disapointment. In soccer you can have the best attack in the world if your goalie is not up to par you can forget about contending... That being said I would like to know what are our chances of passing the next round with our crap goalies... Sutton or Onstad seem to be the only options so I think that this will hinder our chances... What do you guys think.. mind you we only score an average of 2 goals per game... If our goalie lets in 1 or 2 bad goals per game well you know the drill!

Alex
Ive had some time to reflect on this very question. What I will add is that we have to remember what happened the last 2 times to help us know where we stand now. We were goalless and pointless both times. We now have one goal and one point. Lets start with baby steps. Everyone here said we need at least 4 points in the first two games. If I recall, a win is 3 points and one tie gives us 4. The first game is all jitters (I also believe the field turf WAS a factor). Montreal will be different, we will win.
Seb of Mtl
i think we can only really evaluate this question based on a win in montreal in two weeks otherwise there will be no discussion, sadly!
Keegan
OUR GOALIES ARE NOT BAD. Honduras and Jamaica have goalies equal or WORSE in skill. So how many bad goals will they give up? We have two good MLS keepers and a Champions league keeper. Jamaica has an unattached former english 4th division keeper (although he did play amazing wednesday) and Honduras has a national league keeper. strobe_z
Here's my take on it... after some careful reflection. a) All we have to do is win in Jamaica. In that case we're essentially just swapping the "win at home, draw away" rule. The upside of this is that we play Jamaica in Kingston on the last matchday. There's a good possibility that they'll be out of it by then and may only field a team of local players. If that happens, then this game is meaningless. Let's put this in some perspective. The last two times we were down 2-0 in goals and sitting on zero points after the first match... and in way easier groups than this. c) The last time around we were winners of both matches against Honduras but for the ref. Honduras may have improved, but so have we. Besides, if there's one upside of hardly ever having any fan support, it's that we have twice as much experience in playing away games than anyone else (except maybe the USA). Why are Honduras favorites over us? The only answer I can come up with is FIFA rankings (nothing) but then again didn't we finish ahead of them in the Gold Cup? We have improved amazingly almost a 180 from 2004. We suddenly have all these World Class players in our ranks who popped out of nowhere. De Guzman has turned into one of the best players in one of the top 2 leagues in Europe and every match proves why he is the deadliest player in CONCACAF (TAKES NO MATCHES OFF). De Rosario keeps racking in Championships and his NT form has been amazing. etc. etc. In 2004 Honduras was very lucky off us. I think Honduras is A LOT like us... both our teams show flashes of brilliance and then come up disappointing in other matches (both lost to Guadeloupe while they beat Mexico and we beat Costa Rica). Both teams seem to play the under dog role to perfection and can't seem to win when they are favourites. So if we are going to be named underdogs at home, then I say bring it. michaeltfc91
If lose to Hondruas 5% If tie to Honduras 25% If win to HOnduras 45% I really think we're going to beat HOnduras. I predicted 1-1 for the Jamaica game in the "official CONCACAF prediction" thread and i'm putting the HOnduras prediction here: 3-1 Canada Our offence is going to explode and we are going to play similar to how we played against Guatemala in the GOld Cup. Nice one touch passes will be perfected on this natural grass. HOnduras will end up scoring a nice goal after we score our 3 goals.
