I didn't know much about the Honduran team until now. This really IS the group of death. But I still predict a Canada win at Saputo
Sam
Costly was the leading scorer at the 2007 Gold Cup, but haven't heard too much about him since.
Toronto Ruffrider
That lineup is a significant upgrade over what Jamaica threw at us two days ago. We need to step up our game big time.

VPjr
I look at it the other way. Honduras has to figure out how they are going to neutralize DeRo, Atiba and JDG. Honduras has a good lineup but I think our team is better equipped to play head to head vs. Honduras than Jamaica. The smaller, technical Hondurans are a better matchup for Canada in my opinion. Our midfield is deeper and more talented than theirs. The only guy who worries me is Sauzo but if we can force him to have to constantly track back to get the ball, we'll be fine. jpg75
My 2 cents on the Honduran lineup: ------------Valladeres-------------- Izaguirre-Bernardez-Mendoza-Guerrero --------------Palacios-------------- Alvarez-------DeLeon---------Guevara ----------Costly---Suazo------------
Javier
they have a centre half at wigan , i think it is palacios he is a very good player -... just to let you know, a team from argentina arsenal that is a 2nd order team beat honduras monagua 4-0, the other day..... and monagua did not had one attempt to goal... arsenal (argentina) does not have any international in his team, only one colombian defender,
U-Bolt
Their line-up is bush league at the best of times, just kidding. I do agree with what VPjr said, that this is a better match up for us, then Jamaica. I think if we insert Imhoff, and the other mids push forward more often we will be able to leave Montreal with the victory, and three vital points. mtl-supporter23
A much deeper squad than the Jamaicans, however as someone mentioned before perhaps more suited for our style of play. I don't see our boys backing down, we seem to play our best when our adversaries seem to be "better" than us and downgrade our play when facing a weaker opponent. mtl-supporter23
Bertuzzi44
I am afraid of their counter. We will need pace at the back.

Their counter will be good, but at the same time I'm not expecting Guevara to be closing down players at the same speed that the Jamaicans were doing. And for this reason--the sense that we are sort of underrated underdogs in this match--I think the pressure will be off the boys and they can play the sort of free flowing football we've been playing as of late. Their back line does not look that impressive, though.

Keegan
I am very optimistic after looking at that lineup. Honduras would be foolish to play 2 strikers vs. us and leave the midfield open. Their defense looks bush league, worse than the Jamaican back line last match (who did well mind you). We need to control the midfield and FORCE Honduras to play long balls which we will win because of our size. THAT MEANS, pressure the defenders when they are in their half and give them no options but to launch the ball. We have had a lot of success vs. Central American teams in the past year 2-1 vs. CR, 3-0 vs. Guatemala, 1-1 vs. CR (should have won), 5-0 vs. Guatemala in Olympics Quals. I think the Canadian style definitely has something on Central American teams. THOUGH, we MUST pressure their defenders at all times to force them into the long ball, win that long ball down to our midfield and we are laughing all game. btash
a strong attacking team by the looks of it. however we should not underestimate them if that is the formation they wish to use, an open mid. is to our advantage but anything can happen. amacpher
quote:Originally posted by Keegan Their defense looks bush league Really? How much of Motagua & Olmpia do you get to see annually? Seriously, this team is pretty scary on paper and I'm not surprised they almost beat Mexico in Mexico. The defence certainly held their own in that match apart from a 60-second lapse. Not Bush league but you get my point. Their defense is below MLS level which isn't saying too much.

Disagree on the pressure being off our boys, unless you meant physically. This is a must win and we'll have to press right from the start. I don't want everyone to be saying "we deserved to win" again on the Sunday morning. But I'm feeling good nervous, not bad nervous.
CanadianSwede
I believe we always play better against better opposition. Canada has a real shot to win this. I believe in our boys.

MTL_4_LIFE
Hopefully David Suazo doesnt not make the trip across the sea because the Italian league (SERIE A) is going to be in its second week of league play. So i hope he doesnt make it.
mtl-supporter23
Suazo will be making the trip, he's on their Qualifying roster so I wouldn't see a reason why he wouldn't be there. Many of our boys from are making the trip from europe...*cough*julian*cough* and I see no reason why he wouldn't show. Looking forward to a good competitive match where I think its going to be a battle of back lines, who's the weak link there and I think that will showcase the result. trueviking
pfft...whatever...yeah, its a better lineup than the rags we shat the bed against last week, but this is hardly a side that should strike fear into our boys... imagine if our goalie and back 4 all played in a league like the honduran domestic league...we have concern with MLS level players. i see one impressive name on the list...other than him...their attack is made up of players from MLS, bottom table EPL, Serie B and Poland....certainly no better than bundesliga, la liga, denmark, MLS and greece. we have bundesliga 1 players that didnt even get in last game. Calgary Boomer
You have to respect a team that went into Mexico and led at halftime. Even though Sven was probably playing the Mexicans in his stupid "Christmas Tree" formation, that game result caught my eye.
