Vancouver viewing party!!

Hey guys,

Whats up with the westcoast? We can't seem to take over a bar or pub and make it an awesome place to watch Canada matches. Lets get over the passive/chill Vancouver vibe, and get a sea of Red in a pub for these games!!!

I vote Library Square or the Lamplighter. Both are nice venues, awesome screens. Library Square has food. Maybe Doolins?

Anyone down? It would be cool to get a big pack out to one spot, instead of the sprawling at different cafes and pubs around town.

Thoughts?

The game is at 4:30...Greater Vancouver is a large community, getting the guys from south of the river to a Vancouver Location at 4:30 will be a tough ask.

Anywhere but the Lamplighter...They were opposed to the Whitecaps Stadium If you recall...I do because my letter to the Ownership of the Lamplighter made the 6:00 news two years ago because of their lack of support, hence I have pledged never to step foot in there and spend my $$ there again.

For what it's worth, the Lamplighter has changed ownership since the stadium battle (it's now owned by the guys who run the pub at Library Square). They're stadium supporters now.

I won't be able to make it, but another option you might like that's in Gastown is The Black Frog. It's down by the railway tracks, across the street from the steamclock and next to the Starbucks. It's got a good tap list, reasonably cheap beer, and the owner is very soccer friendly.

as far as atmosphere goes...it will be up to us to create it. There is a bar in the west end called...uh...oh...the old crab shack...bill, you know it...i think it's called the soho. They are pro soccer and i have watched a few games there. I even asked them to set aside a room for the V's once and he agreed without hesitation. Maybe if he is keen to sponsor us for these matches and set aside a room in the future, we can show our support to him.

But i am up for a meet somewhere...only if it rains..as i will be working. I bartend at joe fortes and we have to large screens there if you all want to show up...sorry, freeebies will be at a bare minimum....but, yes...lets rally something....

That's right, Pulsar...it's the SoHo right at Denman and Davie. Lots of screens and cheap import pints. Wish I could join you!

Guest Jeffery S.

I am definitely on for this, fortunately am off work at 4. I'll meet folks anywhere more or less central.

So what is it going to be, I am definitely up for this.

Whatever a few of you can agree on and I'll be there.

Jeff

yeah for sure the kickoff is a nightmare time...i just am tired of scrammbling to a cafe on commercial drive...and seeing like...two people watching the game...after i nag the owner to put it on the big screen! they are usually pretty good about it...

well..for this one..maybe its not a consensus thing...but it would be great to really take it up a notch for the montreal match.

for what its worth..black frog is a good spot...getting everyone into gastown for a match at this time...brutal for sure...

if anyone decides on a spot i will try to make it!

I work near Gastown and will drop by the Black Frog at lunch time to verify that they'll have the game on (with sound!) and report back to the forum at about 1:00 "sPecific" time.

Cheers,

J

P.S. Bill, it's too bad you won't be there, but let's meet for a beer some time soon.

I unfortunately did get called into work but out of the kindness of there hearts said they would let me go at 4:15 so i could bolt down to the Black Frog...where is it located? Also I won't be able to check on here if you guys are meeting before work ends. Hmmmm...i maybe late but wherever anyone meets i am in. For me...i choose the soho at Denman and davie..only becaue it is close..:D But let me reiterate, i will go anywhere....except coquitlam and beyond....nothing personal to you suburb V's...ok i've rambled on too long.. ciao

Okay, I was at the Black Frog, and spoke to the manager. She assured me that they would have the game on--with sound. I'll arrive at about 4:15. I'm tall and will be wearing light tan khakis, a light blue shirt and dark-rimmed glasses.

By the way, are we certain that the match is being broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific? I got this from their web site, which can be interpreted differently:

quote:Rogers Sportsnet will be airing the Jamaica vs. Canada WCQ on Wed., August 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. PT, live on Sportsnet West and Pacific for viewers with all Sportsnet channels.

See you there,

J

I just found the answer to my own question. The game is being tape delayed in other parts of Canada (in favor of the Jays-Yanks), but will be shown live on SN Pacific! I can't wait!

I'm wondering if its worth one more call to the Frog. I believe the scheduling states that Sportsnet Pacific will be showing the game on tape delay @ 8pm after the Jays game. It will be shown live on the Sportsnet digital package (perhaps channel 145 if Shaw cable).

This seems to be unequivocal:

quote:Sportsnet.ca will stream the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifier between Canada and Jamaica from the National Soccer Stadium in Toronto, ON. The online stream will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The game can also be seen live for digital subscribers in the Sportsnet West and Pacific regions. Viewers in Sportsnet East and Ontario can watch it on tape delay following the Blue Jays game.

I'll see you at the Black Frog.
