Guest speedmonk42
It is a well kept secret, but you can take public transit to downtown Toronto from the airport for $2.75 Called The Rocket I think. For people arriving late, like close to 4, it might even be FASTER than a cab or shuttle bus. It is a public bus that goes directly to the last subway stop. On the subway.... no traffic. Might save people some money, and it really is very fast.

For those going directly to the game from the airport, take it to Kipling station (the bus' final destination), then take the subway to Dufferin station. From there, take the 29 Dufferin bus south to Exhibition. Please note that you will need a transfer to board this bus, so grab one from one of the machines at Kipling station (a transfer obtained at Dufferin station will not be valid for the 29 bus, it has to come from another station). You can also take the 29 Dufferin south bus to the Rhino (get off at Queen and walk two blocks west) or to the Dufferin Gate and Shoeless Joe's (get off at King and walk either immediately west (Dufferin gate) or two blocks east (Shoeless Joe's). Free kick
I have taken this route before Its fairly reliable. As far as being fast, hmmm tough to say but I think you are correct if your destination is downtown even if getting on a rush hour subway with luggage is a real pain. But I am pretty sure that at rush hour the other options are worst as far as time and hassles. Comparatively, ground transportation from Pearson ( and the same goes for every other airport in canada that I have seen ) is terrible.
piltdownman
Sorry, hwo does the transfer work? Do I get it on the 192 Airport Rocket, or at the subway station at Kipling? I have to make a stop at the Sheraton first.

If you have to make a stop at the Sheraton first, then you'll have to pay two fares. The trip has to be continuous (one way) for the transfers to be valid. Take the 192 Rocket to Kipling station, then take the subway eastbound to St. George. When at St. George, get a transfer from an automated transfer machine (red machines that are located inside the station, usually near the ticket booth, not at platform level - just push the button and it spits out a transfer). Then get on the southbound subway and go to Osgoode. Get out and walk the short distance to the Sheraton, do what you need to do, then walk back to the corner of Queen and University and use your transfer to get on westbound streetcar. The only hitch would be if there's no automated transfer machines at St. George -- I can't recall offhand. If you don't want to be bothered finding out, though, you could just pay the extra $2.75. Free kick
Once you are at the downtown Sheraton, its not that big a deal to get all the way over to where the pubs are. If your feeling up to it, you can even walk it. Its nice walk and its not short, but its doable.

Scottie
I did this last time I was in TO and it worked out fine. I mean, for an out-of-towner unfamiliar with TTC it was easy enough.
CanadianTraveller
Dumb question since it's been 15 years since I was on TTC...don't you get a transfer on the 192 bus from the driver, in order to get on the subway? Isn't that transfer sufficient to board the 29, or does that transfer disappear at Kipling?
CanadianTraveller
Best bus to take to get to the Rhino? There's a CNE Express bus running, but I'm guessing that bus doesn't stop along the way. Any thoughts, or should I navigate the TTC web site?

However, if you get off the subway to check into the Sheraton first, don't take too long. The transfers have a printed time on them and the 29 bus will not accept it if it is too old (usually more than 2 hours from the time you got it). You could buy a day pass, but I am not sure if they sell them at the airport. If the extra fare is an issue, I would just walk myself --- from the Sheraton, BMO Field is a 45 min walk away

IF memory serves the 29 comes into the "bus area" of the dufferin stop so you shouldn't need a transfer at all, but it never hurts to have one in your pocket. Bus south (number 29) from Dufferin station on the Bloor/Danforth line and get off at Queen Street or streetcar (501) if you're coming along Queen Street. S. No, the 29 stops at the side of the road, so you definitely need a transfer to board.

sstackho
Well, I wouldn't call the TTC fast from the airport by any stretch. My guess is that the bus/subway will take a bit more than an hour to the Sheraton, whereas a cab at 4pm would be 30-40 minutes. But the former costs a couple of bucks and the latter closer to $50.
