New rules concerning flags at Stade Saputo

I believe this will affect the V's as well, unless they're setting up rules only for the Ultras, you never know.

As of Aug. 13, flags on poles are not allowed inside Saputo Stadium anymore. Poles and sticks of all kinds will be confiscated at the entrance and kept aside for the duration of the game. Apparently, this new rule comes directly from Montreal's police department, who never has agents at the stadium during games...

The Ultras currently are trying to find a way to negotiate for the use of PVC poles in flags, but is having a hard time getting the contact info of the person in charge over at the Police dept. as the Impact refuses to give it to us for the time being.

We'll keep you informed of developments.. if any.

I have my doubts whether they're telling the truth about it being from the police. I'm a long way away in Vancouver, but everything I've ever read about Stade Saputo is that it was built as a playground for kids and their families with a football match going on in the background, and anyone who is caught disturbing the kiddies by supporting the team will be flogged.

I think it's time for everyone to write to Joey and ask why he doesn't want his team to be supported. Didn't he mention that he was impressed with what Toronto have accomplished? Does he think that they would have done that by stifling any sound or crushing any fun being had by real supporters?

You have a really nice stadium in Montréal with a great pitch. It's such a shame the owners of the team are such buffoons.

Bonne chance

I agree with tintin, ive been 6 times to saputo stadium and its all about the kids. they give the ultras the hardest time to support the team. they dont allow flags, whenever there is a tifo or a banner being brought out security freaks out and tries to kick them out. i cant even yell or swear at the game cuz i feel bad as there are thousands of kids around. they have a mascot that is so greating stupid and pointless. every time the ultras start a chant, they decide to put we will rock you on the stadium's stereo. Its not a good football atmosphere in what is a beautiful stadium.

well friends, i have been to the last game at Saputo Stadium and the ultras had their flags out on poles and the security didnt do anythin and they had a big blue, white and black flag out that covered all the ultras. no one said anythin, the security guards dnt care. only thing they care about if a person touches the back netting. and i dont think its going to be a problem bing flags on poles

This is not true, maybe you weren't at the very last game which was Wednesday. We had to leave the flagpoles with security. We did have the flags though. At least they could have informed us about this before the game instead of springing it upon us at the last minute, ie. when we were at the entrance. It is hard to say whether this rule will be enforced for the Canada match as the last Canada match had more liberal rules than the Impact matches. The flagpole ban is unfortunate because when I made the Voyageur Cup presentation I was able to see how it looks from the field when all the flags are being waved in the Kop and it looks awesome.

Seriously dude, stop spreading false information around.

We did NOT have flags on poles as we couldn't even get them inside the stadium in the first place. No poles of any kind allowed at Stade Saputo.

So anyway, everyone here pretty much know who's in the Ultras and who they should trust with this kind of info, so no harm done, I guess.

No flag poles and no banners is the policy that security has enforced at stade saputo as relations with saputo has been sketchy at best. Its unfortunate that Saputo, instead of supporting his die hards and marketing towards building a footy market, cators to kids and soccer clubs dishing out free tickets everywhere.(i recently just had this discussion with an ultra the other day)

Saputo has to begin marketing towards a footy market because if he does land an MLS franchise surely he wouldnt want his market to comprise of twelve year olds. A little off topic someone should really start a thread concerning this discussion, but back on topic...

At World Cup finals flag poles are never allowed, so might as well get used to that policy now for 2010;). But in all serious lads as long as we chant and sing our hearts out, that is all that is necessary to support our boys. Personally I don't think that the security will mind the v's banner or any other pro-canadian banners which will be in attendance but we'll just have to wait and see for sept.6!

allez les rouges!

A slight nitpick: they were banned from 1994 to 2002 but returned in 2006 (with conditions on size, diametre, etc.).

Nothing's sure at this point. You'll know when it is. Assume for now you won't be allowed flagpoles.

Will we organize a march like Toronto?...if so, we should bring flagpole anyway just for the march. And pray that they change the rule for the game.

As far as I know, the banners were banned from Impact games at the time when Canada played against SVG at Saputo.

The Vs ended up using their banners, as CSA made the rules for that game, I believe.

Maybe the same thing will happen for the flagpoles ban, you never know. Stranger things have happened.

How about we call the Saputos, the Impact organisation, the montreal police and make sure that they watch the Toronto game tommorow.

They'll see how awesome the efforts that the fans r putting to support our national team are. And maybe they'll see that the *pic nic family* atmosphere we see at Impact games has nothing to do with the rest of the soccer world.

They need a wake up call....seriously.

What's dissapointing from the Impact is that they KNOW and HAVE SEEN how things are done in Toronto. The staff has been to a few games there. Whatever's working at TFC just isn't part of their operations strategy. I'm guessing that comes from high up.

ok i can understand that's their decision for the Impact. But they have to keep in mind that they will host a CNT game. Thats something else!!!
