MLS team helps restrain wild passenger

Members of the New England Revolution, traveling to play Chivas USA on Sunday, play a role in subduing man who tried to open an emergency exit door in flight.

July 19, 2008

An American Airlines flight headed from Boston to Los Angeles and carrying the New England Revolution soccer team was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Oklahoma City on Friday after a male passenger who had earlier stripped off his clothes tried to open an emergency exit door.

Crew members and Revolution staff helped restrain the unidentified passenger, who had removed his clothes in the restroom before being told to get dressed. After re-emerging clothed from the restroom, he then tried to open the door.

An airline spokesman said the man was turned over to the FBI and the aircraft continued its journey without further incident. New England plays Chivas USA in a SuperLiga game on Sunday at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
