Blue and White Army
Thought this info might help, for those of us prone to stretching the "shorts season" into October back home in BC: Average October temperature in Edmonton (high): 10.9°C Average October temperature in Edmonton (low): 0.3°C

CAD404.00 eh? Tempting. The prices have come down big time since last week. its a little more reasonable now and getting close to what I paid for the 2004 game. Tempting. By the way, did you make it down for the TFC - Col game in June?
Bertuzzi44
(Via) Rail is impossibly expensive but how about a bus? Granted, airplane does have it's advantages!
CanadasBest
I've stayed at both the Comfort Inn downtown (It was ok), and the Coast Edmonton Plaza. The plaza was nice, and the U-20 team stayed there. It was a short walk to the metro and the Sherlock Holmes pub. Like I was mentioning in another thread, I had originally planned to drive out with a group, but being a midweek game I think a flight will be more convenient. Bertuzzi44
So what are the plane ticket costs usually like? ~$800?! (return)
CanadianTraveller
quote:Originally posted by Bertuzzi44 So what are the plane ticket costs usually like? ~$800?! (return) $275 with taxes is the historical seat sale number for YVR-YEG - you could pay less, but it's not common. ($99 each way, plus taxes) With fuel surcharges you can expect to pay more...but WestJet is discounting heavily this summer and a $49 each way seat sale may be in the cards. I'd wait another 30 days to see what comes down the pipe. Abbottsford often has a seat sale on as well. And Victoria should be no more expensive than Vancouver (Westjet has three flights a day non-stop.) As for accommodation, anything under $100 is a steal for mid-week Edmonton. Keep an eye on the Ramada Hotel and Conference Centre - it's at the City Centre airport but a walk to the mall and transit connections; $10 cab or less to downtown. I'd recommend the Coast Edmonton Suites - it's where the teams stay. If a group of people are coming (10 rooms or more), I'd be happy to call around for a group rate...just have to get those 10 to agree on budget. But a one-time group rate isn't going to be much of a discount given occupancy rates in Edmonton.
Rivaldo
I've seen Van-Edm advertised for $99 each way in the past, but that would total around $350 return with the current fuel surcharges.

I'm sure there will be at least 10 (if not 20 or 30) of us from Vancouver alone - might you look into this? I've got a buddy who's a casual supporter at best who, to my amazement, has agreed to join us flying out to Edmonton for the match. He just needs to know about accommodation... CanadianTraveller
Tell him $129 + taxes (10% as I recall). Split a room and you're good to go. Phil (I gotta stop calling you that!), round up your first 10, and find out what type of accommodation I should be looking for. Low-end (Travelodge-type), mid-range (Holiday Inn Express), or more formal hotel (downtown Coast Hotel, Westin at the right price). I can't ping every place in the city, and if you're only booking 10 rooms (20 people???) then you can't offer choice on which place to stay at. Once we get some kind of consensus...I'll make the calls.
Blue and White Army
I'm happy with low-end, as I'm only staying the one night (Wed 15 Oct).

EdmontonSoccer
You can probably stay at the century casino and just jump on the LRT about 2 or so blocks away. http://www.cnty.com/casinos/edmonton/hotel/
matthew
Geoff> was it the Coast Edmonton Plaza we were both at for the U20s? It was nice, good location, but definitely nothing too fancy. I've gotten a good deal at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton ($99 I think?) and it's a good location too very close to the Coast, attached to a mall via pedway and a block from a casino. I'm probably only there one night. cheers, matthew

Yes the Coast was the one for the U-20's that we stayed at. I'll check out the Sutton Place as well. I'll probably be flying out on Airmiles and I just have to call and book, but i'll be there one way or the other.
CanadianTraveller
Nothing cheap about the Sutton - that $99 price is great for there. (A long-term preferred corporate rate is around $119, for example.) I'll start making calls Friday...great mention of Century Casino Edm. Soccer! matthew
Traveller that price was a few years ago. I last stayed at the Sutton for the Honduras game in ’04. Hmmm maybe I shouldn’t stay there this time . . . nice hotel though. Thanks Geoff. I was thinking of going back to the Coast . . . great location, no big frills, but clean and decent. Now I just need a cheap flight. cheers, matthew

That sucks! But you are probably right. Are you flying out the morning of and returning the next day? That could be fun if we get a few of us on the same flight. EDIT: if I can go I'd be looking to share a room wherever the group is staying. [8D]
