Paddy
This would seem to be the most organized and largest gathering yet. Is this correct? Should we wear name tags? I think it would be kind of funny. Oh yeah...where is the after party?
Scottie
I'm of the belief that every home game from here on out will be the largest gathering of v's to date, and will do everything in my power to be a part of all of them. (I'm getting a little emotional here) So excited!!!
Cheeta
Of course. Absolutely. Paddy, what a question. I know you've only been on this board for what, 10 years? But come on. What are yah, new or something? Great to see all the new voices joining in with their energy, but even better to see sooo many of the long time lurkers, those Shadow Vs who've spent all these years eaves dropping on the forum finally standing up and not being so shy. Admitting "yeah I was there" and piping in with a "I'll be there again". Love that ****. See. We don't bite. (Well, at least not before sunset...) Hey...I tend not to pay too much attention to attendance at games that I can't attend (bloody CSA non-BC bias). As I am going to this one I have been following the seating chart and thinking...hmmm, this seems big and organized. I have only ever seen Canada play in Victoria and Vancouver (rather small venues), so I have no idea how things went before in TO. It was always hard to tell how many Canadians actually showed up by watching the game on TV as they were always drowned out by the visitors. This time I want to be apart of what I feel will be the most pro crowd ever. Yeah...I could have figured it out, but I feel like a kid going to the zoo, repeatedly asking my parents if there will be lions there (even though I have been told there will be). Just wait till I get some beer in me. I am really pumped for this game. I sold my ticket to the Pemberton Festival yesterday to pay for the flight. My friends are all in shock. Just wait till I tell them what I sold it for. CANADIAN SOCCER - they will organize an intervention. Anyway...I don't think I am making much sense...time for a valium. superbrad
I have longtime lurked here never realizing that to be a "member" you simply needed to start posting. It took an email to the moderators before I realized how old and dim I was becoming. With this many V's attending maybe we can arrange discounted food - drink at a large watering hole. Maybe bus rides to the game just like the good ole CFL. TO bar owner business opportunity?

Unless there is some unexpected changes, the before game gather should be at the Dufferin Gates. Its a pub right at the North west corner of Dufferin and King st. Thats been the gathering all year long for pregames
matthew
The biggest group I was ever with was in Edinburgh. Not many Vs per se, but we were massed in a group of 350 Canadian fans (mostly local university kids on exchange I think) which was unique and memorable. Even if it were just the sections we have going in the north end it’d easily be the biggest, but add the south end TFC guys holding it down . . . I’m hoping it’s going to be something else. I may be jumping the gun, but I’m not overly worried about day of stuff. There’s a few pubs going on on King West and Dufferin or whatever and I think we’ll all congregate there and do our thing and I think the planning of that will be pretty smooth, but what about the days leading up? I would think a few of us will be there for days in advance. Maybe not all the Ottawa/Montreal/Kingston area guys, but there should be a good group travelling plus the GTA guys and gals. It could be a good time to get to know folks. There’s always some regionalism and sillyness around here, but any time I’ve been in a room full of posters we’ve all gotten along great. Just throwing it out there . . . cheers, matthew
Toronto Ruffrider
Will August 20th be the largest V's gathering? At 700+ seats sold, that would surely be a yes! However, what's truly impressive about this match so far is the amount of support that Canada is gaining from many different supporters' groups in addition to this one. Just look at some of the sections that will be standing up for the Red and White: 101-104, 105 (maybe), 110-118, 126 (probably), and 127-130. BMO Field is awesome for TFC games, but even it never gets this kind of supporters' presence. I'm looking forward to the metallic stands of BMO shaking under the weight of over 2,000 stomping supporters!

How about Shoeless Joes? It's a large bar near BMO where us fellow TFC fans drink pre/post match. 1189 King Street West http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=toronto&state=ON&address=1189+king+west&country=ca&zoom=
VPjr
^ This game is going to be huge...no 1 pub is going to hold all of us (V's, RPB, U-Sector, north end elite, etc...) As we get closer to game day, some type of co-ordination is going to be needed to ensure everyone gets their pre-game and post-game libations in the same general vicinity. Shoeless, the Gate and a few area pubs will be doing a crazy amount of business on the 19th and 20th (it would be great for all the people who consider themseleves V's to get together on the 19th, if possible, to put faces to usernames) I'll supply the "Hi, my username is" stickers
KAS
quote:Originally posted by Paddy Should we wear name tags? I think it would be kind of funny. Oh yeah...where is the after party? I sort of jokingly suggested name tags in another thread. Since I have a seat in 104 and I have never met any Voyageurs in person before, I would be willing to wear a name tag with my board name. Being called KAS instead of Ken (KAS is my initials - the "Ken" in Moncton was here first) would be fun. As for places to meet, there are alot of options. If it is for before/after the game, then the bars used by the TFC supporters groups (U-Sector: Dufferin Gate, RPB: Shoeless Joes, NEE: Rhino) makes sense. They have spent alot of time scouting places and had various good and bad experiences over many occassions (lots of forum threads on this) to arrive at the choices they have now. Of the three, I would go with Dufferin Gate. Rhino is further away, Shoeless Joes will be very overcrowded, and there are more Vs with U-Sector than RPB and NEE so the ice-breaking is easier. Of course, there may be so many Vs that both Dufferin Gate and Shoeless Joes(very close to each other) may be needed as the TFC groups are bringing big numbers too. If there is a get-together the night before, then The Duke of Argyle (don't confuse with other Dukes - 86 John St, North of King in Entertainment District), would be perfect. It gets VERY crowded and I forsee it being crowded on the 20th too. My understanding is that the south end and corners are under supporters control. This should make for an excellent atmosphere. Kas: are their any footy bars in Moncton? I'm here for the month and would like to watch the TFC/Impact game on a TV if possible! Thanks!
Massive Attack
With the numbers we're going to be having, we are going to have to use pretty much every bar/pub near BMO Field. The Dufferin Gate and Shoeless Joes are two for sure. There's also the Rhino. I usually don't recommend places that specialize in cucumber sandwiches but we should also consider having some people at two bars on Liberty St. (Brazen Head and Liberty Cafe). Brazen Head is actually rather large as well so it could probably accommodate a very large group. Maybe we should just take over Muzik nightclub! Its still early so we have lots of time to co-ordinate.

red card
I have heard Brazen Head has actually refused TFC supporters. Apparently owner isn't too keen on upsetting his regulars. Maybe that's why this cucumber sandwich place has been chosen party central for the MLS all star game official types.

Given that there are alot of Vs coming from across the country and likely staying in downtown hotels, it should idealy be in the downtown core (or atleast on the subway line) and easy to find.
