CanadianTraveller
Thanks Knobbs for the support yesterday - don't forget to tell them that season seat holders can buy their tickets through TorontoFC.ca's Account Manager (we think) next week, before July 14th. And thanks Grizzly for a well-expressed, well-thought-out explanation of how you see the situation in Montreal...although it could have left out the attacks on posters IMHO. The ad hominem is particularly valueless...next you'll criticize Ceres for not flying over to Canada and the U.S. to watch games in person before he comments on the quality of MLS. red card
quote:The excuses are always a laugh, that people don't know about a game, that they are not marketed to. Why preach to the choir? The hardcore support will always show up. Sellouts are achieved by marketing to those once a year guys who see it as an event One of the problems with North American soccer is that all the marketing is generally towards the kids and soccer moms. And as seen with the MLS, it has largely failed in the stands and the game itself was bastardized with so-called American friendly rules. Only until the MLS started following FIFA rules and paying attention to the traditional hardcore football supporters such as the Hispanic community has the league somewhat risen from its late 90s doldurms. Unless you have Beckham, the best supported teams are DC & TFC - both of which don't cater to kids and soccer moms as their primary audience. One of the great aspects of football is that it can fit the needs of everyone at varying levels - from kids simply looking for excercise to the hooligans watching a match. But if we want to make it a truly home crowd, WCQ isn't really the place for 95% of the soccer moms. If they can't even stand the heat of TFC supporter groups, they are no match against the average Central American supporter. The only kids that should be there need to be accompanied by a footy savy parent (preferably from the old country). Or they can attend the July 10th women's game against Brazil (which I'll also be attending but I have multiple personalities).

No problem CanadianTraveller, anything to increase "hometown" support for our boys when we play Simoes' crew in TO.
Joe MacCarthy
quote:Originally posted by mulliganl Not to mention maybe getting to know some of the cuter soccer moms... Independently minded people (such as a mom who solely brings a litter of young ones to a rowdy soccer match) tend to respond better to a little positive reinforcement. All-in-all, a fantastic idea! Finally, someone who can think, and knows his priorities! Soccer moms have younger sisters, friends. That's the problem with these young fellas, they can't think outside the box. <Related Flashback Mode On> I once asked Kurt Browning why he took up figure skating. Answer: Would you rather been in a room full of guys, or girls. <Related Flashback Mode Off>

There is a French forum that is quite easy to access. The problem is that noone here including the French speaking posters posts there. It often goes months without a new post. If the French speaking posters want to have a French forum it is up to them to use it and get other French speaking posters or new posters to post there. Daniel
Most "specialized" posts, such as in-depth TFC, Impact or Whitecaps talk, as well as French discussions, happen on local boards such as ImpactSoccer.com, the RPB and U-Sector boards and the Southsiders board (still up?). If anything, I think the entire site needs a big dusting. Update (or trim) the history, delete a bunch of outdated things, make the forum the central aspect of it.
