According to Wikipedia, he has been capped by the USA. Furthermore, I don't see any connection to Canada. Somebody please enlighten me.

At some point in the past Ugo's family immigrated to Canada however I don't think they stayed long. His connection to Canada has been pretty vague. And even the CSA site says that he represented the US in a friendly on Jan. 29th, 2006. So, I'm not really sure what is up with this.

As for the inivitees, it seems that Lars, Peters, Jazic and Nsaliwa were left off from the original roster called. Can't say I disagree with this. Nsaliwa and Lars, I assume, are still ineligible/injured.

Mods might want to merge this thread with the new one on the Florida camp roster.

It is my guess that the USA cap for Ihemelu against Norway was unofficial (not a FIFA sanctioned tournament) and therefore he is still not cap-tied to the US. IIRC, "A" international matches only cap-tie an U21 player who has already represented that country in an official (U17, U20, Olympic) tournament.

New here but have been reading the boards for probably four years. I think he is a solid defender it might be a website mistake but if its the real thing that is good news. I think he can play right back so there is the cover we have been needing for Stalteri.

Cool thanks.

Was thinking maybe we'd see him play against TFC this weekend, but remembered the qualifiers start this weekend :)

Well is this an example of the cooperation that Carver was looking for? He's been in camp before and did not overly impress.

Ugo? I don't think that's true. Who said that? Yallop? My understanding was that he wanted to play for the US. I think it's a Jack Stewart situation where once it became clear he wasn't going to be part of the their set up, he's come over. We might be his second choice, but I'm not going to complain. I thought he was quite highly regarded in MLS?

Well I don't want to f* up Nik's holidays but surely to Christ he would be a suitable backup to Stalteri instead of a guy who clearly has had no interest in playing for us, just playing us to get an invite to the US camp.

Unless FIFA has changed it rules again, playing an 'A' friendly against Norway in 2006 would cap-tie this Ihemelu guy forever to the US. Don't know why we would have him in camp if that's the case. He would have been past 21 at that time.

I love this continued debate every three months or so! :D So I'll throw in the obligatory: it has to be an official comptetion, friendlies don't count anymore.

Re: Ed's comment, I agree Nik should get a shot, but we can't fault Mitchell for expanding the pool of CBs. Especially if the guy is only 25.

When did they make this change? Of course they change the rules so often I wouldn't be surprised if friendlies didn't count again. But for awhile I know that friendlies did cap tie you.

I'm not sure how it's evolved but I think it's pretty clear they're bringing in this guy to play against VAG, which will cap-tie him to us.

They better be damn sure, because I'd hate to have to forfeit both those games after the fact because we used an ineligible player.

I stand to be corrected but I think friendlies can only cap-tie a player if he is younger than 21 years old and would be eligible to make an application to FIFA to switch countries. For example, if Marcel DeJong had played in the friendly against Costa Rica last year, he would have been cap-tied to Canada (because he had previously represented Canada in a FIFA U20 tournament). Of course, since he is now over 21 he can no longer represent any other country. Again, I could be wrong.

That's a major concern.

I'm not too worried. FIFA doesn't recognize the Norway-USA game as a friendly and we already know he holds Canadian citizenship.

If it was too happen though the CSA would be FINISHED no ifs ands or buts.
