Mobiiiiiiiilio
Major League Soccer Commissioner Issues Statement Regarding Thrown Objects in Columbus on May 24 NEW YORK (Friday, June 6, 2008) – Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber issued the following statement today regarding the Columbus at the Crew versus Revolution game on May 24. “MLS has conducted an investigation into events occurring at the game between the Columbus Crew and the New England Revolution on May 24th at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. During that game, objects were thrown onto the field by spectators on a number of occasions, in some cases striking players on the field of play. A number of fans were ejected by security staff as a result of these actions. As a consequence of this review, MLS and its teams will take the following steps: 1. MLS and its clubs will undertake a comprehensive review of security measures in each MLS facility to ensure that sufficient measures are taken to prevent fans from throwing objects from the stands at players or officials on the field. Additionally, MLS teams and stadiums will fully communicate to all fans attending MLS games the League’s policy that spectators in breach will be ejected and prohibited from attending future games. 2. MLS has reviewed the increasingly coordinated use of streamers at some MLS stadiums to affect play, particularly as a distraction to visiting players as they attempt to take corner kicks. MLS teams will communicate to their supporter groups MLS’s existing policy – that streamers are not to be used to impact on-field competition or thrown toward a player, referee or stadium staff member. While the spontaneous use of streamers and confetti as an expression of fan enthusiasm will not be prohibited, the continued practice will be kept under review. Should issues continue regarding the use of streamers, MLS will have no option but to prohibit streamers.†

Kiscix
So when you throw them just throw them more random like "accidently" tangle the corner kick taker...
Trident
Yes, the Toronto streamer throwing is quite spontaneous, it has always been spur of the moment, every time in every single game they've done it.

KAS
I don't mind this at all. I think MLS is being quite reasonable here. If we continue to see idiots throwing stuff at players - including streamers that make the playing area - then bans should happen. If nets have to go up then so be it. Throw the streamers after the national anthem and after TFC scores a goal. There will be no problem. It is when people are throwing items onto the pitch during corners and the run of play in a deliberate attempt to interfere that they cross the line. You support the team and be the "12th man" through cheering. To physically interfere with the game is very unsportsmanlike and unacceptable. Personally, I think the whole streamer thing is getting old now. You know something is no longer cool when Colombus is doing it. For those who want to continue, I suggest that they only do it when they have something to celebrate (TFC goal) and that they aim high and throw them into the sky in a nice arc instead of straight onto the pitch. There can be no complaints about banning someone who throws potentially dangerous objects at players.
Juby
I can't really say I disagree but for the pro-streamer side, I have noticed that when a player doesn't seem to care about the streamers (throw a few aside for a brief moment, look and take their kick) that their corner turns out fine, it's only when the player is freaking out about the streamers and losing there minds and taking forever that the balls are almost always ugly. (I saw Blanco take a streamed corner too calmly and accurately despite all the streamers to take any of the complainers seriously) True say, it's a tiny piece of paper, I sincerely doubt it slows the players run and kick motion at all and I think its more plausible but still extremely unlikely that it could affect the ball. Of course I agree that throwing stuff at players is unacceptable but there's next to no doubt in my mind that when it comes to streamers that the complaining is limited to players who have bad sportsmanship (when your losing it's not uncommon to see a teammate latch onto something unrelated, like insulting fans, and blame everything on them and then proceed to give up mentally cause they have their excuse). Odds are though that one of the really loud poor sports will whine and complain until MLS cracks down so I guess this is as good time as any to stop cause I doubt there gonna allow streamers in the long run, they carefully worded to use of them here and when the next whiny player or visiting fans complain, they'll crack it down completely under the cover of having already warned everybody (however, no matter what happens, I got $20 for whoever pegs landycakes in the head with a streamer). Yes. And guess how many would freak out due to physical interference if no one threw streamers at them? Not one player. They hinder some, 1 person is too much, be gone with them. BringBackTheBlizzard
Not the end of the world. I'm sure people will be able to come up with good ways to annoy corner kick takers with chants and banners. I'm surprised streamers were ever allowed in the first place, to be honest. Interfering with the flow of the game is seen as a step too far in many parts of the world and North America tends to be quite conservative when it comes to fan behaviour. Even the league poobahs considered it a joke for quite a time but the novelty is now gone and I'm surprised things haven't changed prior to now. Lets try horns and air horns all simultaneously going off in the corner as soon as the player starts towards the ball. See if we can make the ball move with a short, loud sound wave
