beachesl
Moderator, please sticky this and remove sticky on completed Champions League pool. Let's have a pool, shall we? Nasty, short and british, just like Hobbes. [:I] I will try to run it from here, even if the crumbling Argentine infrastructure may cause some delay. Simple rules: You have right up to kick-off of every match to make your prediction. Group Stage: 1 point for every result (win, draw, loss), 1 bonus point for actual score, 1 bonus point for picking the goal scorer or the player to score the last penalty kick or the player to score last if it is a draw (and to be warped, the scorer of an own goal counts). Since there is a new rule for ties after group play I was not aware of at the beginning, I will have to clarify a point. The new rule says that if two teams are tied in points/goal differential/goals scored/ and are tied after regulation time foor the third group match they play together, advancing to the next round depends on a penalty shoot-out. Thus, If the Czechs and Turkey draw for their last group match, they will have a penalty shoot-out to determine who advances. In the case of a penalty shoot-out in a group match, it will be considered a draw for the purposes of the pool, but the winning penalty shoot scorer will be considered the "penultimate scorer". I believe this is in concert with the spirit of the rules. This will not apply to the elimination round, where you can only predict wins or draws based on who advances, not draws. Quarter-final Stage: 3 points for every result (only win or loss, no choice for draw after regulation), 2 bonus points for actual score, 2 bonus points for picking the winning goal scorer or the player to score the last penalty kick if it is still drawn after extra time (and to be warped, the scorer of an own goal counts). Semi-finals: 5 points for every result (only win or loss, no choice for draw after regulation), 3 bonus points for actual score, 3 bonus points for picking the winning goal scorer or the player to score the last penalty kick if it is still drawn after extra time (and to be warped, the scorer of an own goal counts). Final Match: 7 points for result (only win or loss, no choice for draw after regulation), 4 bonus points for actual score, 4 bonus points for picking the winning goal scorer or the player to score the last penalty kick if it is still drawn after extra time (and to be warped, the scorer of an own goal counts). MATCH PREDICTIONS The match result points will be based on correctly predicting the: result: actual score: penultimate scorer: note: The "penultimate scorer" is the player to score the ultimate winner (or the last penalty kick after extra time in the elimination round) or the player to score last if the match results in a draw. Own goals count, to be warped. Predictions for the match can be made anytime before kick-off. BONUS POINTS TO PICK TEAMS ADVANCING TO QUARTERS: Before June 7 kick-off, 2 points for each of the eight teams advancing fom the Group Stage. EXTRA BONUS POINTS TO PICK CHAMPION: if picked... Before June 7 kick-off: 10 points Before 1st QFs kick-off: 7 points Before 1st of the Semis: 5 points EXTRA BONUS POINTS TO PICK EACH OF THE 4 SEMI-FINALISTS before June 7 kick-off: 2 points for each semi-finalist ____________________________________________________________ MATCH SCHEDULE note: "UK" time is now one hour before GMT and five hours before EDT. beachesl
Man, it is really hard to choose, especially Group C, the Group of Death. The only near certain thing is that Austria won't advance. I do not think Greece are that strong, but any other team could win it all.

beachesl
Cheeta, bro, good to have ya aboard. One thing tho, you have to predict the SINGLE penultimate scorer (who scores the winner, or the final goal in a drawn match). For the record, the penultimate scorers so far are Pepe, Sverkños (sp), Modric, Padolski and Ruud Van Nistleroy. So, only the RiverCity dude has actually picked one (Ruud) so far. Here are the standings so far, after the Dutch avalanche[:I]. Remember that this is just a finger count, so check it yourselfs and let me know if I miscounted. 5-RiverCity 4- beachesl, Cheeta,Saviola7 2-JKCanada Still lots of tourny left, so come on!
