Because that takes money...

Are you sure were not paying to go play them, if you look at it ..seems Even is going take his team from his home base and go traveling for three months before he gets to china..

East Coast May 10

Australia May 23

Korea June 14

China August 6

I cant imagine them flyng back to Vancouver after Australa since and out and back would wreck havoc on circadian rhythms only to do it again 21 days later...or less cause you gotta expect them to be in Korea a few days early.

If they do the out and back, especially if they play in very cool winter temperatures in Sydney, expect to see players suffering from colds and such when they get back to Vancouver. Typical May temperature at night around 8 to 12 degrees celsus ... so a chilly game night if they play under lights at 7:30 local time.

Of course playing an olympic pool team in Korea gives all the upside to the Argies... but maybe Even thinks they wont adjust when he meets them in China at the Olympics.

I suspect were going to hear about players being bagged in August by the travel back and forth.

Funny how these games get announced on such short notice, was it not planned earlier ?

The smart thing to do would have been to set up a game at BMO Field right after the game in Washington. Heck, TFC has May 1 to May 17 off. Not sure about the US's schedule, but it could have even been a home-and-home kind of event. Or simply get another nation to come over. But its too late now.

No, the game is not until Friday. The Matildas oversea's players will not return home to the team until the Asian Cup the following week, so Sermani has brought in some young players, including two 16-year-olds.

They for sure did play today. There is a second game on Friday. The game may have been against a younger squad but it did happen.

Yes, Canada played the Matildas today, to a 0-0 tie. It was a closed door game. The Canadian women take on the Matildas again this Friday, May 23rd in the first game of an all-Aussie doubleheader (the Socceroos play Ghana after the women's game).

Canada falls Down Under in women's soccer friendly

SYDNEY, Australia–Forward Caitlin Munoz's goal in the 40th minute proved to be the winner Friday as Australia beat Canada 2-1 in a women's international soccer friendly.

Australia, preparing for the Women's Asian Cup starting next week in Vietnam, took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on midfielder Amy Chapman's goal.

Striker Kara Lang scored for Canada in the 56th minute.

The two teams played a memorable match at last year's World Cup when Australia scored in injury time to edge Canada for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Gotta love it, even when they are losing, the team is still having a good time sightseeing etc. Nothing, I mean nothing, gets our girls down unless of course the weather was bad and a sighseeing excursion had to be cancelled. Pellerud any excuses, I mean comments about the game?

Sounds like it was a really exciting game. Australia has a great striking pair and treat to watch in land rocket and 2007 WWC hero Lisa De Vanna and cagey Sarah Walsh (runner up for AFC player of the year last year). De Vanna wasn't there but Walsh played an hour before getting injured and having to leave the game, which seems to be when Australia got unsettled.

Besides losing Walsh after 60, Australia must be pretty happy considering they won without half the side that put in almost a full 90 in their World Cup elimination round loss to Brazil:

- Lisa De Vanna (with Swedish club)

- Heather Garriock (2007 AFC player of the year runner-up, with Danish club)

- Sally Shipard (injured)

- Joanne Peters (injured)

- Thea Slatyer (commitments... black belt who works as a bodyguard)

The Crawford report did wonders for Australian football... hint hint

AUSTRALIA/CANADA

Shots 11/6

Shots on net 5/1

Saves 0/4

Corners 3/6

Seems it wasn't just Walsh leaving that unsettled the Aussies in the last half hour... up 2-0 they brought on their U20 keeper for the second half, followed in the last half hour by three more young players including a pair of 16yr olds.

Just a single Canadian sub, Robinson for Schmidt just after the hour.

A single shot on goal. Is that the best the coach can muster? I wish the players were not so intimated to speak out. Considering their last 3 results I think their coming game against Brazil could be another big embarrazement and at the BMO to make matters worse.

Actually, now that I think of it, that could be a touch higher depending on the actual FIFA definition of "on goal". 6 shots, 1 goal and 0 saves = 1 shot on net. There is an argument either way for saying a crossbar shot is "on goal" or "off goal". Yes, it hit the "goal" but it didn't/wouldn't go in the "goal".

Regardless, that's semantics. We were fully loaded and healthy, played our 11 and pretty much stuck with it, and they were half-sided, missing a number of their strongest players and subbing in U17's for experience.

Anyone have an opinion on why Sermani went to his bench so often and young?

A) he planned on giving it in advance and stuck to it

B) he wanted to see his young players in international action in case of injury to any of his stars in the Asian Cup

C) he was confident and satisfied after the first half

D) he was worried it would turn into a USA rout

E) all of the above

The last time I watched a soccer match it was the Players that shot on goal not the Coach. (see "The Ref"'s post above) Has anyone considered that perhaps that's the best that the team can do? It would be a heck of a thing if the coach was replaced and the team did worse. Who would get the blame then? Let them do their thing at the Olympics. Then change coaches and win the next world cup. Simple isn't it?
