Vic
2008: "The current national women's senior team is determined to become the first Canadian side to qualify for the Olympics by finishing on or near the top of the CONCACAF qualification tournament in Mexico from April 2-13." 2004: "The US would go to Athens, and the legendary stalwarts of the team would have their chance for final glory. Mexico also qualified, having stunned the heavily favored Canada in the semifinals." The Caribbean countries are extremely weak, and a semi-final date with Mexico is already written. We're ranked 9th, Mexico is 23rd. Odds are in our favour. And more importantly, revenge is in our favour. We'll thrash them.

It looks like a good road trip, or a fly in.
beachesl
Well, across the river from El Paso, in Ciudad Juarez, a dump of an Mexcian border city of well over a million, very dangerous (unlike most of Mexico, which I love). Hopefully the ladies will be staying in El Paso, which in comparison is safe but very very dull and ugly. Walk across the bridge downtown and take a taxi. Resist any suggestions of fun or historical places to go. Always take taxis right to the immigration office and to the stadium. Take care with your passport, and carry cash in a few places, with a throw away wallet. I know the area well. Too bad they could not have held the torunament in Guadalajara, a great place. CJ is always getting bad press in Mexico, as thousands of women who work in the factories there go missing or dead every year. Strange place to have a womans soccer tournament, but maybe it is a statement.
devioustrevor
Apparently Mexico has recently sent 2500 soldiers to the city, so it should be a little safer than normal. I am aware of Juarez's reputation as a few years ago 20/20 did a report about how so many women had disappeared from there.
