Here's some informations about the status of some of our players regarding U-23 qualifications in March:

Confirmed:

Andrew Ornoch

Nik Ledgerwood

Brandon Bonifacio

Probable:

David Edgar (waiting for his club)

Will Johnson (waiting for his club)

Ryan Gyaki

Wagenaar

Begovic (waiting for his club)

Rosenlund

Thanks Facebook.com

If some of you have infos about guys like D'Agostino, Peters, Jackson, the TFC youngsters, and others, feel free to post it here.

I think we might have a pretty strong squad, stronger than I initially thought (it's certainly nice to see that Nik L. has obtain his release from his club).

Interesting, Frank Jonke.

Here's a CSA release about the training camp for the U-23's.

Canada to prepare in Oxnard before Olympic Qualifiers

Coach Nick Dasovic

Canada's men's U-23 team has announced it will open camp on 1 March in Oxnard, CA before the 2008 CONCACAF Olympic Qualification Tournament. The Canadian team will then head south to Carson, CA on 10 March before opening their tournament against México on Wednesday 12 March.

The Canadian camp will feature players born in 1985 or later. Most players will arrive in California in early March, however a few players from European clubs may arrive later in camp once they are released from their teams. The CONCACAF Olympic Qualification Tournament does not fall on FIFA international dates, so some Canadians will not be available for the tournament.

Canada's round-robin competition in Carson, CA features México (12 March), Haiti (14 March) and Guatemala (16 March). Should they finish amongst the top-two teams in their group, they will advance to the semi-final on 20 March in Nashville, TN (to be played against a team from the other round-robin group). The semi-final winner will advance to the 26 March final and book their ticket for the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Well that's good news about both Ornoch & Ledgerwood, I didn't think we'd be able to get either of them.

Another name that is probable is Dejan Jakovic, based on Dale Mitchell's comments following the Martinique camp. Not sure about Paris Nakajima-Farran though (who was also mentioned by Mitchell), as he's young enough for the 2012 Olympics.

Never heard of Jonke before, although nice to see the Lynx connection in his bio. Team Chemistry at the same level as our opponents is going to be tough to manufacture.

G-L's right...it's going to be tough to generate a lot of chemistry in 11 days.

I wonder who they will arrange to play some prep matches against. College teams are out of season at that time. Maybe some California based semi-pro teams or something like that.

It's gonna be interesting.

By the way......less than a month to go & we haven't heard a peep from anyone from television coverage. Perhaps it is time to start badgering/inquiring with the plethora of networks to find out who is covering these matches, if anyone. The games are being held in the US after all, not Martinique.

There was a rumour from a poster named Gaucho (after the UCSB NCAA team) that our U-23 would play a friendly against UCSB.

Ed, it was indeed on facebook ;)

Correct about Bonifacio.

Another thing that was nice to hear is that Ornoch club are encouraging him to attend the U-23 Q because they think it will be valuable experience for him. It's nice to finally hear some Euro club encouraging their players to attend this kind of event.

Compared to the last Olympic squad, we have more players on bigger clubs who are getting less playing time, and therefore more likely to be released. We could actually pull one off here...

Hopfully Edgar, Bergovic and Johnson will be released, if they are then I couldn't agree more. It is ashame that Peters can't play, I realy like his speed

Hainault is still working on his release from Sparta but will definately not be ther for the entire Pre-games gelling session with the team. Club is a bit reluctant to let him go for so long.

I love the way you put that. That "Hainault" is working on it. Not his agent, not the CSA, but the kid himself. That's fantastic commitment from a guy who could be our future captain. And amazing considering he's just transferred to a pretty big Euro club.

I know the Olympics in football is just another youth tourney, but why aren't more of these kids making a stink to play in the Olympics? I mean, Yeovil Town over the Olympics? Shouldn't Ipswich step in for the sake of his development? They must be happy to unload JP's contract and be done with it. That being the case, I'd see the writing on the wall if I were JP.

And having sat on the bench for the entirety of his first league game with Sparta, I'm sure he will put some additional pressure and tell them there is no reason to stay back to "watch" his club play...First time he sits out an entire game since he has been in the Czech Republic. Must be bummed out righ about now.
