dpetzz
It seems that other federations face the same struggles that the CSA encounters but other federations get creative and are willing to make adjustments in order to give their teams the best chance at winning. Tonight, Sky sports reported that Ireland has hired Trapattoni to be their next head coach...What is interesting is that apparently his salary is being covered at least in part by a donation from the fourth richest man in ireland. Now I don't know if he will be able to qualify Ireland for the next world cup especially since Italy are in their group, but it is the point that the FAI has gone out and made an effort that strikes me. Here in Canada, salary was a huge issue when we picked our head coach and it floors me that our association never sees the big picture but rather looks at the bottom line which seems to always lose money anyways. Does anyone know if the CSA has ever approached rich canadians for financial help? Lately we hear about canadians buying into soccer whether it be in austria, france or even here in north america (steve nash)....why not ask them to buy into canadian soccer....Just my thoughts......... deschamp86
I remember something a while back about Lenarduzzi and Saputo offering help to the CSA, but were rejected. I forget what it was. I think it had something to do with hosting the Women's World Cup.
piltdownman
I think it was Kerfoot (the Whitecaps owner) that wanted to fund the Women's Olympic Qualifiers in Vancouver (and possibly Victoria as a second site), when the CSA said it would be too expensive. The CSA rejected the idea because the Whitecaps organization wanted to take full control of the event and the CSA didn't like their lack of control. At least thats what I remember off the top of my head.
Pawel
quote:Billionaire fan part-paying Trapattoni's wages A billionaire businessman has emerged as the patron of Irish football after offering cash to secure the services of legendary Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni. Cork-born entrepreneur Denis O'Brien confirmed the charitable contribution, widely seen as the key in ensuring the Football Association of Ireland could sign Trapattoni, one of Europe's most successful coaches. BrennanFan
You want the CSA look into creative funding sources? C'mon, be serious. Next you'll be expecting them to hire a coach in less than 2 years or something.
