Winnipeg Fury
We never had him, so we really can't miss him. Not exactly the vote of confidance that our players needed prior to World Cup Qualifying.
JayWay
He looked into the camera, into the homes and living rooms of Canadian soccer fans, and lied.
VPjr
no surprise. I've been saying it for months. just too bad. lets see if he ever sees significant playing time for the Dutch.

jonovision
I had adopted the Dutch as my second team after living there, but it will be hard to cheer for them in any game that JDG2 is playing. Selfishness like this discredits the entire notion of international competition.
Footscray
Not shocking but he's still a little douche. Hope he never moves back to Canada again if he feels so strongly about representing the people of Holland.
Gian-Luca
quote:Originally posted by JayWay He looked into the camera, into the homes and living rooms of Canadian soccer fans, and lied. Well he never stated he would play for Canada, but if he was just waiting for his Dutch paperwork to go through all along (which the timing of this implies), then yes, he could have been more honest in that recent Sportsnet interview and just have told us that this is what he was waiting for. De Jong did the same thing & most Canadians welcomed him with open arms with Canada as his second choice, it would have been no different with Jono. Disappointing, but I've had a bad feeling about this in the past week after a period of some optimism.

CanadasBest
Man this is terrible news for us. Still this situation is much much different than Hargreaves. At the very least Jonathan is choosing to play for his adopted country. Unlike the whore, JDG2 has lived there for a very long time. Flame Away, but I guess I'm reluctantly supportive. Maybe now we can convince the dutch to come and play against us in a Friendly in Toronto. To the tune of Another Brick in the Wall: We don't need no Jon deGuzman, We don't need no Dutch Liberal, Heh Holland! We got the better one! Paddy
Thank god this is over...it was probably all misdirection by the CSA to keep us from focusing on important issues like our suspect WCQ preparations.

Lomonty
Absolute shame, not a surprise though sponsorhip can come through this big deals via a International spotlight in Europe, it's not gonna come easy though the Dutch team is deep. Cheeta
As an adult he has to chart his own course. Be the person he wants to be. Holland has provided him with the opportunities to achieve his ambitions in a way Canada never could have. It's probably right and proper he should play for Holland (if they'll have him). But a shame all the same. Was hopeful the boy brought enough of Canada with him to Holland to move him our way. Shows how much I know. Well, that's that I guess. We'll never see The Brothers de Guzman excepting in the unlikely event of their playing together on the same club. P.S. He's still The Guz's brother and that's reason enough for me to follow his career with some interest and a lot of best wishes. You lot bad mouthing him, ask yourselves why exactly. We got the better one! i disagree with you , i find Hargreaves situation to be a lot better than this owen. Hargreaves has english blood , his dad played profesional soccer in england, he was rejected from the national program. I ll honest and say that this would be better if jono decided to join the jamaican national team. although Hargreaves was opportunistic too , he was actually british , jono has not blood relation to holland at all On top of that , jonos brother is without a doubt our best player in the canadian national team. I can not understand how Jono2 did not accept to play for canada which would mean play right beside his big brothers. Hargreaves looks good compared to jonos case. Besides Hargreaves did not make a drama out of this
CanadianSwede
Mixed blessing. On the one hand all the speculation is now over. On the other he won't play for us. Oh well. I really do hope that we make it to the world cup to show him that we mean business. Ps Jono: Don't come back to Canada! YOU'RE NOT WELCOME.
