AvroArrow
I don't know if its lacking in Canadian content, since it appears that around 30% are Canucks. I think the bigger concern is the lacking of quality Canadians. Most of them are young/fringe players.

Hard to see how you can improve that way.
Richard
Maybe they are having a similar problem to that experienced by the Whitecaps. Lots of fringe and clearly not good enough Canadians keen to play for the club but not very many really competent, experienced, high grade players. This is plainly why the Whitecaps look south, a bigger pool. Lenarduzzi commented to me last year that he was really concerned about where he was going to find Canadian players to replace the old horses on the team who are pushing up into the thirties with the end of their playing careers in sight. Early days yet for the Whitecaps Residency players who are still young though I'm sure some of them will see some first team playing time in 2008. They released a lot of players, many young, many in their first pro situation. I find it hard to believe that none of them had a future with TFC if provided time and opportunity to develop. For those players not to be replaced is of concern to me. What's also of concern is that there are no NCAA graduating seniors on the roster for camp. Murphy Weirdu was good enough for the MLS combine. why not give him a shot at camp. There are a couple of others (can't think of names off the top of my head right now). The young players will never improve to become a quality player if they aren't signed to begin with. Last year TFC did not fill out their roster and we are still short (and we can only fill it up entirely with Canadians, so 30% is not enough). I still don't understand why they didn't bother to use the supplemental draft to give 3 young Canucks a chance to show if they are any good. Thats what bugs me. That gives credence to the suggestion that there is a bias against Canadians. I can understand the off season moves that affected Canadians. But only on the condition that that talent is replaced

But in terms of replacing Canadian talent, I'm sort of thinking (or rather, hoping) that the club did some addition by subtraction: i.e. if a young guy with upside like Hemming continues to see minutes as a fullback this year, I think that's better than having Braz still in the picture. I find it somewhat ironic that the Canadian player many of us agree has upside (whether it will be realized is another question) is Tyler Hemming who was taken in the supplemental draft last year. I'm not sure there can be an acceptable answer to not using the supplemental picks period, let alone on potentially late-developing Canadians a la Hemming. BearcatSA
Very good point, Andrew W. All the more reason to use that sup draft for some Canadian prospects.
ag futbol
Skipping supplemental draft picks is pathetic. Every team in MLS except FCD (which picked3) took at least five players. But we're just too great to bother apparently. [xx(] This is the problem with having a naturally talented striker as your coach, they're too lazy to do anything.
