BrennanFan
There are 3 things I think we should contact the CSA about in the near future. I wanted to get everyone's thoughts... 1. The Voyageur's Cup Now that we know there will be a Cup Tourny between the USL teams and TFC, the time is ripe to contact the CSA about attaching the 'Voyageurs Cup' name to it. The V's Cup has been around for a while now, and it has been legitimized by the clubs, media, and even the CSA sort of as they have info regarding it on their site. We should send a formal letter to the CSA asking the Voyageurs Cup name to be retained. But who to send the letter to? Dominic Maestracci? 2. Fan's Choice Award Not too sure about this one. But what are everyone's thought's on merging the CSA Player's Choice award and the Voyageurs Player of the year award? We could approach the CSA about somehow making this into one award, obviously keeping the Voyageurs name. The 2 awards seem redundant. They might just go for eliminating theirs, and putting up a press release with a link to our site when awards time rolls around. Or is this something to do later on (or not at all?) Thoughts? 3. An Interview with Dale Mitchell I would like to see an interview with Dale materialize on this site before WCQ. Would be nice to get his thoughts on the CSA, our formation, Nsaliwa, etc. Also, I think that if we addressed the factors that have led to WCQ failure in the past with Dale, we would be doing our part to let him know certain moves will not be tolerated, before it's too late. Guest Ed
Just don't call them 'collect'. See Richard's latest post in the Women's section. What a pathetic statement. Burn it to the ground. Forget about contacting them, shun them, beat them, run them out of town.
BrennanFan
RE: the interview, I wrote this up to send to them. If everyone is alright with it, I will be emailing this in pdf format with the voyageurs logo to the CSA. I guess I will be putting my name and contact info on it. As for the actual interview, I could do it, but maybe someone with actual experience in this field would be better (MediaGuy?). I guess it would be a phone interview? Comments? The interview would be conducted for the benefit of the most passionate and knowledgeable fans of the Men's World Cup squad. Specifically, we expect to canvass the following topics: The CSA's decision making structure Canada's performance at the 2007 U20 World Cup Canada's performance at the 2007 Concacaf Gold Cup Factors leading to failure in past World Cup Qualification cycles: - lack of team preparation - player selection issues - travel, time zones and jet lag - lack of home field advantage - refereeing incompetency and/or corruption in Concacaf BMO Field and Field Turf Position by position player selection issues ahead of World Cup Qualifying The 4-5-1 formation The Tam Nsaliwa situation The Jonathan de Guzman situation The Voyageurs would be publishing the interview on our website, www.thevoyageurs.com, a site that maintains the most active Canadian soccer forum on the internet. Guest Jeffery S.
Hi I think you have to go the normal route if you want an interview. You call the press person and tell him what you want. You then if they need it send a letter constituting a formal request. They agree and you arrange the date and place. And the accepted length of the interview. Nothing more. You don't need to send a letter like that, and you do not need to pact the questions. It is an interview, if he does not want to answer a question he can say so, no problem. All we would have to do is assign a few people with press experience to do the interview, I would say normally a max of three. As for contacting the CSA, I have been thinking too, in relation to the Voyageurs Cup, that it would be good to ask someone (or two or three) in TO who represents our interests moderately to meet with the CSA (and maybe TFC too, or another time later). I would include someone who has been active with the Cup from the start, or has done press, plus a couple more. And just talk through options. Don't mix in a lower priority question like the Fan vote now, go for the important stuff (Mitchell interview and V-Cup), and you can do that another time. AvroArrow
You'd probably end up with a name like the BMO Voyageurs Cup or the Voyageurs Cup brought to you by BMO, if they let the Voyageurs name at all.

Better than just "BMO Cup". At least if it's "BMO Voyageurs Cup", we have some recognition. Corporate sponsorships are a fact of life: BMO Field, Air Canada Centre, Molson 3-Star Selection, etc. etc. Even the Bad News Bears had "Chico's Bail Bonds" as a sponsor. Cheeta
Pretty much what Jeffrey S wrote. I'll tell you honestly BrennanFan I see no reason to contact the CSA on any of the issues/endevours you've mentioned. At least not as this point. 1). Is still a work in the earliest stages of progress but I feel completely confident that if we can come to some sort of gentleman's agreement with the three pro clubs (through their agents) that the CSA will be powerless to veto the Voyageurs Cup as the Club Champions trophy. If the clubs want it, that's what it'll be. 2). Wouldn't sweat this issue one bit. Let the CSA have their awards but by all means let us keep ours. As a fan award, I feel ours holds more legitimacy simply because we're unattached to the national governing body. And besides can you ever have too many fan awards? 3) Again, pretty much what JeffreyS wrote. I think doing an interview as a Voyageur is very different than doing an interview on behalf of the Voyageurs. Two very different things to my mind. The former is a matter of personal choice the later quite rightly an impossibility given we're a non-structure. It's a weakness in our little club. That being said I like this idea a lot and not just on the Dale Mitchel topic. I firmly believe this site should, and quite easily could, do a Hell of a lot more to support our domestic football media and our domestic football fans by promoting the Canadian soccer shows and print which we've all craved so much for in years past. Sorry to be so negative. But I have to say that I'm very encouraged this past year by the amount of pro-active energy which has found it's way to this board this past year or so. It's altogether unVoyageur like to be honest and we have to find a way to positively utilize it. And the sooner the better.
The Ref
I wouldn't go to bed with the CSA. They will screw you up.
VPjr
Richard Scott was on the Soccer show on Thursday on fan590 and I recall them talking about what cup they would be awarding to the winner of the 3 team tourney between TFC, Impact and Whitecaps. I think Bob Iarusci or Ben Knight mentioned contacting the V's to name it the Voyageurs Cup. the show is available on the Fan590 website so take a listen. If you want Dale Mitchell to answer questions, why don't you invite him to join us for a 1 hour live chat on the forum. everyone would have to agree to be on their best behaviour but I think that scenario would please the most people. I'm not so sure Dale would accept the invite but if he did, I'd have a lot more respect for the man. As for the v's international player of the year award, I suggest we keep it to ourself. the more awards handed out to Canadian footballers meands more exposure for our players. i think our award represents the opinions of the best educated followers of Canadian soccer but it doesn't need to be the only award. I just don't bother voting for any other award because to me this is the only one that really matters to me.

I strongly agree with your idea of media support (ie. you mean improving Footy Show viewership numbers?). But it also tells me something about the issue when members of this board want a specific interview with Mitchell asking the same questions that these domestic media outlets probably should already be addressing. VPjr
If you guys are serious about inviting DM to do a live a chat or even possibly an interview to be published on this website, contact me. I've spoken to someone at the CSA about it who might be able to help make it happen.
jonovision
Maybe somebody wants to send an email off to the CSA to ask if they know which were players were subbed off in the Martinique match.
