Referring to the black hole known as news around new signings etc for TFC, he basically said the bloom was off the rose and TFC is going down hill after their promising initial season. Note that HE said this, not me.

^I don't know...its clear that a lot of TFCs hardcore support don't give a ratsass if a Canadian dresses and many of those who do are willing to give it time. I think everyone is willing to give the team a few years before fading away if TFC continues to be weak on the field. While there were no doubt a few who came last year due to novelty, I think Bretos is off base given the support from last year.

Even if there were zero canadians on TFC, it wouldn't matter to the fans. There are zero Canadians on the Raptors and 1 Canadian on the Blue Jays, and people still attend games. People come out to see professional sport... 80% of the stadium is sold out already, so even performance doesn't matter at this point.

I don't think TFC will need to make the playoffs this year, but they should make a decent run of looking like they could. I think it was in year three with the Grizzlies in Vancouver that not winning started to become an issue. That experience may not translate to a different sport and a different city, but I suspect that any sports team (outside of hockey) in one of the big Canadian city needs to show some results to keep the fanbase engaged.

The other thing to add is about Max Bretos. My current stint outside of Canada started almost two years ago, so things may have changed in that time, but at that point, FoxSportsWorld didn't have a single person in their employ who had even basic knowledge about soccer. Bobby McMahon was okay, but as their main analyst, he was weak. The various morons that they had sitting in the hosts chairs were horrendous. Basic things like mis-pronouncing names of significant European clubs and top-level players only showed them up to be what they were, people hired because they supposedly looked good on camera who were coached to pretend they had some of the requisite knowledge required for the job. They even had the woman (I can't remember her name) pretend to be a Chelsea supporter. It was pathetic.
