Sam
Will our U-23 team have any friendlies before qualifying in March, and if they do qualify would they play some friendlies in Canada? I haven't heard too much about this team ,and if they even have camps scheduled yet.

Cuba split a two-game series against visiting Haiti at the Estadio Pedro Marrero in Havana from 4-5 February. Enrique Villaurrutia had two goals, while Yordanis Álvarez and Leonel Duarte each added another for Cuba in the 4:0 win in the first encounter on 4 February. The following day, Guerrier Panel scored twice to lead the Bicolores to the 2:1 victory over the Leones del Caribe. Guatemala will travel to Cuba for a pair of friendlies against the host at the Estadio Pedro Marrero from 13-14 February. Meanwhile, Honduras are training this week in Comayagua and will face the 20-time Honduras League Champions, CD Olimpia in a friendly in Amareteica on 14 February. SthMelbRed
With all due respect to U23s, but if money is going to be an issue with our preparations and further arrangements for the WCQ later this year, I'd rather the CSA put whatever resources they've got towards the SMNT. A couple of friendlies for the U23s could cost the big boys a preparatory friendly. Hell, even if the CSA can save enough to pay for some business class seats for the senior players coming home for the first semi-final match in August by cutting the U23 prep costs, I'm in favour of doing so. BrennanFan
at least 1 proper friendly for the u23 team should not be too much to ask. goddamn the csa and their inability to generate even the most basic funds.
An Observer
i think the CSA has real financial issues at present due to the loss on the WYC and the CEO lawsuit. I may be wrong but I cannot remember a camp for any men's U23, U20 or U17 or other squads since the WYC in the summer. That is over 6 months. I do not recall in the last 10 years, that we have ever gone that long without a camp for youth teams. Perhaps I am wrong, but i think they don't have cash for camps right now

jpg75
I'm curious to find out who played for this Chile U20 team that Mexico just beat. Was it their 87's from last summer? Or is it younger kids that are forming the next group for next year? If you didn't read the article you'd think Panama scored some amazing victory
loyola
Our opponents are having some decent preparation for this tournament. I'm happy with the roster and hope we can compensate for the lack of prep.
jpg75
I agree, Mexico is getting a ridiculous amount of friendlies...While we get zilch. Alot of our guys haven't played together in 2 1/2 years!
loyola
With the club situation of some of our players (Nik L. will arive on March 9 and I expect the same for some other euro guys), we will be lucky if they can train at least twice together... beachesl
Thanks gaucho. Beter this than nothing, but a bit disappointing we will not have a firendly against an international selection.
loyola
Someone posted in another thread an e-mail from the CSA comm guy who said exhibitions details would be posted during the week end on the CSA website. I,m still hoping for a friendly against Australia who will be in California at that time.
Gaucho
I am afraid we won't provide you with the stiffest competition considering: * We lost 7 players from the squad that just completed the season in Novemeber. Six of the seven were drafted in the MLS including the 5th, 6th, and 19th overall selections. Ironically, the only Gaucho that graduated and not drafted was Canadian Andrew Proctor. * We will be missing our starting CB, Michael Boxall, who will be in Fiji competing for New Zealand in their Olympic qualifyiong tourney. * Our new recruits, including a couple US Youth National Team players (Bryan Dominguez and Danny Barrera), won't arrive until the fall. I hope it's a good match and beneficial to both teams. I really want Canada to do well and qualify for the Olympics. It'd be great to see 3 Gauchos in the China this summer (Rosenlund, Boxall, and Eric Avila for the US). If any of you travels to Santa Barbara, I'm going to expect you to share your impressions of the match, the town, and the school. It's not a bad place to vacation, so I hope I read some Voyageur reports. [8D]
tarnado1555362291
Men's Olympic (U-23) Team Wednesday, February 27, 2008 http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=3059 Tickets on sale to Canada-Gauchos battle in California Josh Wagenaar Photo: Dale MacMillan The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are now selling tickets to their exhibition match with the Canadian men's U-23 team on 7 March. Canada will be in town preparing for the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualification Tournament which opens less than a week later in Carson, CA. Canada's first opponent at the CONCACAF tournament is Mexico on 12 March. To get to the Olympics, so UC Santa Barbara have charged, Canada will first "have to pass thru the Gauchos". The 7 March match kicks off at 19.00 at Harder Stadium at UC Santa Barbara. Tickets for adults are $10 U.S. while tickets for children under 13 are just $5. Coach Nick Dasovic has until 10 March to name his final 20-player roster. He is not bound to the 30-man list, so he will be able to select any available players born 1985 or later. Dasovic will also be able to make changes after 10 March for medical reasons. Canada’s round-robin competition in Carson, CA features México (12 March), Haiti (14 March) and Guatemala (16 March). Should they finish amongst the top-two teams in their group, they will advance to the semi-final on 20 March in Nashville, TN (to be played against a team from the other round-robin group). The semi-final winner will advance to the 23 March final and book their ticket for the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
