Lensky NT Status/DeRo rumour

Nice forum here guys...

- Estatic to see De Jong with the NT, he'll be a fantastic defender for years to come, I think thats a bigger aquisition than most realize... any word on Lensky capping for the NT yet? Looks like hes here and there for Feyenoord, havent seen him play but at 19 thats pretty serious football and Im assuming he's one of our more high profile young talents.

- Just a rumour for the community to dwell on from my Celtic forum today:

Just heard today on FSC, Fox Soccer, that a number of British clubs have contacted the MLS for the transfer of Dwayne De Rosario and they mentioned specifically Fulham, Celtic FC and Reading. They also said Andy Dorman was leaving New England Revolution to join Scottish side St. Mirren.

Its rumored that AEG are buying Figo. They only own LA and Houston now. So that would mean that either he would go to LA and Donavan would go to the Earthquakes or he would be at Houston taking Dero's spot. It would make sense if he was being shopped. Celtic would be good, Reading would also be positive, but Fulham are going down so that would suck.

Heeeey.

DDR at Parkhead? You know that's crazy enough it just might work. Or crash like a lead balloon. Whichever. Gord-o is pretty cheap though. Okay, cheap maybe isn't being fair. Careful with his transfer money then. If MLS sets the transfer too high he ain't going anywhere. But speaking of Robbie Savage, if he's got a million & a half pound price tag pinned to his shirt (good luck with that!) I sure MLS could get something similar for one of their late 20s goal scoring midfield stars.

Pretty sure DDR would be happy to double his wages as well.

Uh, wow. Just a rumor I know, but a good rumor.

Another fun rhumour, but as per the ones with Hume, Friend, etc... I won't be holding my breath.

The last thing we need right now is DeRosario rotting away on somebody's bench right now. So if he does go anywhere, I hope he gets action.

I'm not sure I'd want to see Dwayne in England or Scotland, it doesn't seem to fit too well to me. I think Spain or France would be better leagues for his style. That being said it would be a treat to watch him take on the EPL as a fan of his.

The fact is that it will be a gamble for any team that buys DeRo. He is proven in MLS but there is always a risk when a player moves to a new league. Nobody knows whether a player can translate their form into a new league and football culture.

I really find it interesting that it's taken this long for European teams to show interest in DeRo or for DeRo to agitate for a possible move to Europe. He's been an upper-echelon player at MLS-level for four or five years already. I do remember, though, Kevin Keegan wanting to sign him for ManCity a few years back. Apparently, the ManCity board refusing to release the money for him back then was the final straw and Keegan resigned his position very soon after that.

The irony is that one of the most negative posters is himself a Canadian. Dangerous when one person speaks to the unaware in such an extreme way. They all tend to take it as fact and pass it on to their mates. Comments like 'DeRo is our best player which isn't saying much because our NT is 'pish' and trust me I'm Canadian' are ridiculous... but liable to be believed.

Easy.

From what I've seen I still think the SPLs intensity is light years ahead of MLS and that means a lot. Especially when you're discussing the probability of a player moving from MLS to the SPL, not the other way around.

Shrug. Otherwise, I'd say they have raised legitimate concerns about DDR. He's not gone on beyond MLS and if he isn't yet he will soon be on the downside of his career given his age. Like it or not, that's the reality.

Course another MLS star, Brian McBride, came over to the EPL quite late and I think offered Everton and Fulham good service for a few years. But McBride was a perfect fit for the British game. Text book really. Not sure the same could be said of DDR, but the quality surrounding him may bring out his best.

P.S. Would also mention DDR might be in tough entering the SPL at this time. He'll be carrying his share of rust at this point and have little opportunity to shake it off before he would have to start justifying his transfer.

DaMarcus Beazley seems to be doing alright in the SPL. Granted, he's got more pace than DeRo, while DeRo has more skill, but he was a similarly upper-echelon MLS player before he moved to PSV. You have to decide how much development he did in a couple of years in Holland. Personally, I think he was brutal everytime I saw him play for PSV.

Also, you might want to consider the case of Landon Donovan. He's always been one of the best players in MLS, but was quite frankly embarassing himself at Bayer Leverkusen, particularly when he made a rare appearance in the Champions' League (he was so bad in a game against Liverpool in the '05 last sixteen that he was subbed before half-time). Now, SPL standard is far below Bundesliga standard, overall, but Celtic and Rangers need players who can compete at European level.

I guess, the point is that the Celtic supporters are probably right to be a bit sceptical about DeRo, given his age and lack of experience above MLS-level. However, there are so many factors that go into a player's success or failure at any given level that you can only just wait and see how a player does when he makes a move.

Beasley was pretty useless for PSV. Every time he got the ball he passed it backwards or slid it 5 yards to his right.

He's got decent pace but didnt do anything with it. Never tried to attack the full-backs or run down the wing. He did occasionally get a tap-in goal but that's it.

It wasnt really surprising that he was loaned out after 2 poor years.
