I'm just saying, it should look like this....

My lineup would be like this:

---------------Hirschfeld---------------

--Stalteri--Hastings--McKenna--Brennan--

-------DeGuzman©-----Hutchinson-------

-Radzinski--------Hume--------DeRosario-

-----------------Friend-----------------

The three-man attacking midfield should be dynamic and interchangeable, as any one of them can work off either flank or centrally behind the lone striker. This would make us very hard to defend, kind of like Barcelona, but not at that level. Friend is big and would put himself about, as well as holding up the ball for the attackers to come up behind in support. Both JDG and Hutch are good defensively but can also control and distribute the ball very well. They'd be required to play the ball out from the back, as we wouldn't want to end up lumping long balls out from our backline, bypassing our strongest asset, which is our midfield.

I hear your frustration, ie. Jono and Hargreaves, but it's time to let it go. Hargreaves is declaring himself 'British' to anybody who cares to listen (always has been, according to him), and Jono will make his decision in due time. If we can get the lineup that I've shown above consistently on the pitch in the semi-final group matches, we should progress and make Canada look that much more attractive an option for Jono when he's deciding his future.

All the same, I'd feel more than comfortable going into WCQ with the lineup I've posted. If Tam and Jono come aboard, all the better.

I'm not arguing with your original lineup suggestion; I just have growing doubts about Nsaliwa's availability.

------------Friend--------------------------

------------------Jono DeGuzman-------------

DeRosario--------------------------Heargreaves

----------Jules DeGuzman--Hutchinson--------

Subs:

- Radzinski

- Hume

- Occean

- Gerba

- Nsaliwa

Probably the best offensive unit in CONCACAF.

Hargreaves would switch with Hutchinson in such a lineup. Hargreaves is a defensive mid who plays a destroyer role. Hutchinson is far more talented and creative offensively but less effective as a man marker than Hargreaves.

Looking at your line up made me think once more about the pool of players upon which Mitchell will have to select for his squad come the first qualfying ties and then into the fall. I wrote up a list and had seven NA-based players and nineteen capped European-based candidates (excluding Nsaliwa). Even taking into account injuries, some lads are going to be pretty disappointed at being left out. I'm curious to see which ones will be excluded yet willing to remain available if/when needed due to injuries, suspensions, or a ineffective performances.

This is what I would try:

--------- DeRosario-------- DeGuzman--------

Ocean ----- Gerba ------ Hutchinson----- Hume

Brennan ----- Jazic ----- Hastings ----- Stalteri

------------------ Hirchfield ----------------

Strange that you've got two midfielders lining up as strikers while you've got two strikers playing on the wings.

LOL!

If Tam is so far gone we can't include him in our fantasy lineups...well that is disturbing.

This lineup sacrifices Bernier for Hume which I think is a good decision if we truly want to play attacking football. I think it's great. Problem is still at center back McKenna really scared me against South Africa getting schooled on their first goal.

p.s. Did I see the whore in some of these fantasy teams? [xx(]

Weak backline me-thinks. Radzinski should be paired at striker with Friend or Gerba. Hume not a starter at striker, but not bad in the mid. Only defender I'd keep is Stalteri at right back. Brennan will find it hard at left back internationally. I would put Pozniak at left back, he is a bit better in the tackle than Brennan. Tam instead of Hastings, because Hastings lack of speed will be his undoing as well as McKenna. DeRo, Hutchinson, DeGuzman and Hume in the mid.

Regardless of how exactly you arrange this crew. I just wanted to capture the frustration I was feeling thinking about just how nautrally talented this group could have been.

I don't blame the CSA alone, but the football culture in Canada and the sports funding as a whole.

I just pray we get Tam and Jono on-board. What other country has to deal with potentially losing every one of its top players.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) we're not alone. Australia has suffered a few top defections so has the USA. Rossi would probably be their best up and coming player right now if he didn't decide to play for Italy.

I find the culture of sports funding to be a problem as well, but maybe in a slightly different way. We'd rather pay someone a dollar a year and force them to continue to beg for money as opposed to giving them ten and allowing them to become mainly self sufficient.

I’m also always shocked to hear the treatment athletes get abroad as opposed to hear in Canada. We always have this homely vision of a poor struggling individual who fights to make it to the top, and automatically assume everyone goes through this. My neighbour went to the last summer olympics for rowing and most of the training came out of her own coin. Meanwhile, in other places athletes are well provided for and the administration is much more professional. We take the word “Amateur” way too literally sometimes.

Maybe switch Radz for Hutchinson to play 4-4-2 instead of 4-3-3 in the easier away games.

Hirschfeld

Stalteri Hastings DeVos© DeJong

De Guzman Hutchinson

Radzinski Hume DeRosario

Friend

We need someone of De Vos' experience and leadership. He can also get up front for set plays and late in the game. I'm not convinced Stalteri is our most in-form option at back. Occean and Gerba could come on for Hume and Friend.

yes, but . . . could you name a deputy right back on the MNT depth chart who actually plays the position on a regular basis at club level, either in NA or Europe? We need some legitimate depth in that position to emerge prior to the WCQ, should Stalteri be hampered with nagging injury (groin) or suspension. Big opportunity for a younger player to step up.
