Beware the dangers of complacency - US 2010

The details of regional qualifying for World Cup 2010 seemed to come and go with curiously little discussion or debate among U.S. soccer fans two weeks ago.

Can it really be that qualifying is something we already look past with utter disregard, like some nondescript end table? Is it just something to set our drink on until the party really cranks up, say, in the summer of 2010?

Interesting article, but the question for us is, if the US failed to make it to the world cup, in the long run would this be a good thing for soccer development in Canada? (Leaving out Canada's fate) Im assuming here that the MLS would take a severe hit if this were to happen.

Interesting - it survived as the article points out the "poor" performance in Germany and I tend to think it would survive if the US failed to qualify. After all the American stars would be home playing for their MLS teams not away playing at the World Cup and outside of possibly a half a dozen players no teams would suffer greatly roster wise so I think they would carry on with maybe a bit of a drop at the stadium if games were in direct conflict.

Looking at the US team, I would argue that we have a better midfield than they do right at this moment. They have tons of depth as everybody in Cdn soccer reminds us constantly, but the quality of that depth is not great. Our top players will match up pretty well.

I pray we get to the hex this time.
