Who should be captain?

Onstad or DeRo no doubt. Onstad is a great veteran, and he kicks ass if his team is not playing up to par. Julian more of a leader in his play though, but he is more cerebral. Onstad is the only one that is vocal on the team outside of McKenna and Stalteri, but I think Pat is the right cappo for the Nats!

That said, you'd start him ahead of Hirschfeld, at this point in their careers?

Brennan did not feature in WCQ bc Yallop had this great idea of playing a 4-4-2 with two forwards as the wingers, dero and hume (hume was eventually moved up and replaced by peters and then deguzman.

Brennan could see that he wasn't in yallops plans and chose to stay with his club instead of riding the pine. i dont think one can question his commitment over this. why yallop chose not to start brennan on the left and dero on the right, we will never know. this one mistake probably cost us the hex.

Though I realize that I am digressing from this thread, your comments bring up a point I have about player selection for the upcoming WCQ. Let's assume for the moment that all members of our player pool are injury free: I wonder how many of those not selected to start will also choose to stay with their club sides?

I'm not going to start a Onstad vs Hirsch debate but I will say this: If Onstad is the starter, I wouldn't have a problem with him beeing the captain (the guy has a B license as a coach and at 40 yrs old got experience as well, he knows the game).

Hirschfield or Onstad I am not sure. Lars is good in Europe, but Pat knows the Concacaf opponents very well, so thats a tough call. I played in a couple games with Lars in 2004 and I thought at the time that Pat was a little better. I haven't seen Lars play lately, but chances are he is now on par or better than Pat, so really it is a question of who will perform better at the time of year or conditions they're playing in. Lars for colder weather, Pat for warmer conditions due to his age. Make sense?

Good points, rick. Thanks for your insight :)
