What's Stalteri's next move.....

I Think the reckless ambition of the Spurs board hurt not the league and there development policy, As a fan I watched Spurs turn from hardworking renegades to limp wrist prima donna's over 3 years ( I blame the board) . I'd like to see him move to a 6-12 place team in England. Blackburn's line is in shambles right now. Only other option I could see for him is a German side.

To his credit, I don't see him complaining to the English media about his plight, unlike Stephen Kelly's whinging a couple of years ago when Stalteri was first choice at right back. That said, I'm curious to see what his market value is during the January transfer window.

Does he have a market value at this point? He's not been in the shop window. Which is more the pity. I think if given a chance to get back into his paces and shake off the rust he could be moved without too much difficulty.

Still, I think he's stuck in Tottenham till the summer now and then who knows? He's out of contract after this year if I remember rightly.

All good points. Hard to sell yourself when you don't get the opportunity: he didn't even make the bench today and from what I understood when makeshift centre back Zokora was red carded, Ramos eventually sacrificed Defoe and moved another midfielder (Tainio) to right back.

Paul has been a true professional about this, never whining and ready to step in whenever called upon, this itself adds market value. His transfer is difficult for me to predict cause a lot of the teams in the market for a servicable right back are mostly London clubs in contention with Spurs in the table

I found this lovely little song on a Spurs forum this morning. A nice ode to our boy Stalteri. There is a link to a music video if you care to know what the tune is and where the inspiration came from.

Cheers.

"Seeing as it's Christmas 'n' all, I thought I'd share a song about our great right back, that was created from pure work boredom some 2 weeks ago.

Click and listen to the youtube vid for the tune.

Well sometimes I go stand by myself

And I look across the subs bench

And I think of all the things, what you've done

And in my head I make a picture

:CHORUS:

Cos since you've been away

Well my team, it's been a mess

And I've missed your curly hair

And the way you used to dress

Won't you play more often?

Stop making a fool out of me

Why don't you play more often STAL-TER-EEE?

STAL-TER-EEEEE

Did you have to go to away

Sit on the bench, night and day

Bet ya hate Chimbonda?

I hope you didn't give up hope

I hope you know you're the man who'll fix it for us

And you can play just anywhere,

We'd change the team oh yes we'd dare, are you busy?

And it's such a sorry sight

When you're not there on the right, it makes us dizzy

:CHORUS:

(STAL-TER-EEEE) x3

Well sometimes I go stand by myself

And I look across the subs bench

And I think of all the things, what you've done

And in my head I make a picture

:CHORUS:

(STAL-TER-EEEE) x3

Yeh Stalteri"

i love that he wrote "what you've done" instead of "that you've done"...its written in an english accent.

as for paul...i really do appreciate that he has shown so much class...he must be torn inside...the peak years of his career have been spent doing nothing...seriously does he even play for the reserves ever or is really just sitting around watching tv all day...how can you go a year and half without playing more than a handful of games.

i hope he moves, but i think he has been forgotten...maybe in the summer he will get a sniff somewhere....i'd rather have him playing in sweden every day than being a ghost on a lousy prem side.

i think he has one year left doesnt he?....it was a 4 year deal and this is his third year....man, can you imagine sitting in the stands and watching your team play for 3 years between the ages of 28 and 31?

he must totally regret the decision to move to england.

betcha he doesn't. he's on a whack of dough each week (probably nearly double what he was on in Germany) and although he'd probably prefer to be playing, he is racking up a nice cozy retirement nest egg.

Nice. More popular (justifiably) is the Amy Winehouse cover of the song. (Great song, crap video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RI_xYIxUTE0)

I think he could crack 90 minutes a game in Sunderland with Nosworthy out. They need to shore up due to injuries and sucking. I just want him playing!

If that's the case then, would you be happy if he signed for Derby in January? Is playing time now worth getting relegated in June?

Just curious.

Yes. He's out of contract with Spurs at the end of this season and in spite of injury problems in the back four Ramos isn't using him, so he won't be with this club once the season concludes. Moving to a relegation bound team is fine if he's playing week in and week out because at least he'll be in the "shop window" (as Cheeta puts it) and will get a chance to show other potential employers what he can do. And he'll still be in the Prem for five months playing against top opponents, hopefully getting his mojo back in the offensive side of his game (first touch, passing), and that's important from the MNT perspective.

i dont know too many people who are happy with a lousy job that pays well....maybe if you are 18, but not if you are an adult....its not like his previous job was working in a factory....he came from playing on a championship side on one of the world's great clubs, starting games in the champions league with fans that loved him, to sititng in the stands for a team in the bottom half of the table with fans that despise him....not sure how that couldnt be a disappointment.

if you can make it to the prem, you have to be driven to be the best....i doubt a retirement nest egg is much consolation for being a spectator...you only get one crack at life and wasting your best years to be a professional soccer player and make your mark on the world in exchange for more money is not likely satifying for him.

here is a quote about his salary at bremen:

The Crystal Palace wanted me, and offered a nice contract, economically speaking. But I refused. In England I would play for a team that struggles to stay in the first league, here I'm playing for the Championship and in the Champions League."

What's the average salary for a Bundesliga player?

"As far as I know, the minimum is 10,000 euros per month. I have no idea about the maximum, which is high but not as high as in Italy or Spain. I'm not one of those at the top of the salary band, but I cannot complain. Actually, for someone coming from Canadian soccer, my salary is pretty good."

are we sure his contract is up this year?...a google search turns up a lot of 4 year contract talk...this is only his third year...

Good research! I was under the impression he was on a three year deal. Regardless, he doesn't seem in the manager's plans so maybe Spurs will negotiate something like a buy out at the end of this season.
