He missed half the season, only seeing action starting in October. And in a few of those early games, he was complaining that he was not used to playing up front.

I think that his confidence is coming on, after a long injury layoff, and he should have a good 2nd half. Simpson is coming on fine but Bernier seems to have lost his way somewhat.

Has Bernier's recent lack of playing time (the last month or so) been due to poor form or injury?

Re Bernier, he missed the two games prior to this past weekend due to injury, and was suspended for 3 games early in the season for a bad red-card foul. So it doesn't look like he has been benched all that often.

Julian has travelled with Depor to Barcelona for their Cup match Wed vs. Espanyol. They are training tomorrow at 10.30 here. As Cup matches only allow 16 player squads he could get left off to protect the injury, no word yet.

They stay here and do no return to Coruña, then go to Valencia for the last league game on the weekend.

From the official site of Julian De Guzman:

"Julian de Guzmán played the last ten minutes under injury, since Deportivo already had done the three substitutions. The injury consists on a sprained ligament of the left knee, and a small cut on the right ankle. He's under treatment and he expects to be ready for the match against Levante next sunday."

Hopefully it doesn't seems to bad after all!

And a few stats:

Julian stats in this match:

Minutes Played: 95. Shots: 1.

Fauls Commited: 0. Fauls Received: 3.

Balls Recovered: 11. Balls Lost: 4.

I've always loved that stats, it's very helpfull while judging players performances, specialy midfielders.

I might try getting those numbers in the next MNT game.

When I do my own form of this while I watch my tapes of MNT games, it's really valuable (but time consuming). As an aside I can think of a different meaning for "balls lost". It makes me think of the international between Canada and Holland (at Varsity Stadium?) prior to the 1994 WC in the US: poor Corrazin almost had his "balls lost" permanently courtesy of the studs of defender Ulrich Van Goebbel. Ouch!

That is a standard stat in Spain, alongside successful and erroneous passes.

Julian is listed injured in the press for tonight's match, but I guess he travelled as the team then will go to Valencia for the Levante game this weekend instead of returning to Coruña.

For what it's worth, Jaime Peters scored for the Ipswich reserves in a 5-1 victory of Norwich on Monday. According to the Ipswich website, it was a "superb strike".
