Winnipeg Fury
Hastings plays 90 minutes and picks up a yellow card in their massive victory: Celtic slip up at Inverness Caledonian Thistle By Kenny MacDonald GLASGOW, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Champions Celtic surrendered a two-goal lead on Sunday in a thrilling 3-2 defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who were reduced to 10 men by the end of the Scottish Premier League encounter. Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink headed Celtic into a 2-0 first-half lead with two goals inside a minute. He powered down a six-metre header into the bottom right from Paul Hartley's chipped cross on the right in the 24th minute. He then head-flicked a second from close range when a 20-metre, curling shot from Aiden McGeady swirled away from keeper Michael Fraser. Thistle pulled a goal back with a John Rankin penalty four minutes before the interval when Celtic defender Steven Pressley bundled down Romanian striker Marius Niculae. David Proctor headed the home side level in the 55th minute before Don Cowie outpaced the Celtic defence to stab a low shot past keeper Mark Brown into the bottom left hand corner in the 61st minute for the winner. Thistle faced a fraught finish after Proctor was shown a straight red card by referee Alan Freeland for tripping Scott McDonald while he charged free to the edge of the penalty box in the 68th minute. They had keeper Fraser to thank for preserving the lead with a magnificent one-handed save from Stephen McManus' 10-metre header which hurtled towards the top right. "You have got to give my players credit, every one of them put on a great performance. And we had a couple of great saves from Michael Fraser ... the players appreciated his contribution," Thistle manager Craig Brewster told the BBC. Celtic top the SPL standings on 36 points from 17 games, while rivals Rangers remain second on 34 from 15 after beating Hearts 2-1 on Saturday with a Lee McCulloch double. Guest Jeffery S.
De Guzmán injury update, not so good the first one, as he only stayed on the pitch because they'd already made the three changes. This is what the team doctor said: "De Guzman padece un esguince en el ligamento lateral interno de la rodilla izquierda y además una herida en el maleolo peronéo de la pierna derecha." Sprained inside ligament in his left knee. And a wound in the lower right leg near the ankle, affecting the area where the bone inserts (I think). I would imagine he is going to miss the next match vs. Espanyol in the Cup, here in Barcelona on Wednesday (group of 16, first leg), really too bad as I was going to go if he was called in to play. Now I won't. And probably next weekend's match as well, vs last in the league Levante. Then they play the return leg vs. Espanyol at home Jan 2. Then the league the weekend of the 5/6 of January, so that little Xmas break will be welcome, though it is really just a long week off.
crashvegas
If its the ligament on the inside of the knee (the MCL, medial collateral lig.) then it's relatively good news as these ligaments generally tend to heal well. It sounds like the right leg is an injury to the peroneal muscle which is on the outside of the lower leg, and the tendon travels in behind the ankle (lateral malleolus), so maybe it's just a contusion of this muscle - again not a grievous injury. Thanks, I do not do medical translation and I am always lost on these things. Basically this is clear: poor Julian, he done hurt both of them legs. George
Greek updates: Tam did not play in the AEk vs. Olympiacos derby. I don't even think that he was on the subs bench. I tried to find out if he was hurt but I didn't find anything. AEK lost 1 - 0 and are now in 2nd place. Tomasz played the full 90 mins vs. Aris. He had a couple of very good chances to score in the last few minutes of the match but hammered them both over the bar. Xanthi lost 2 - 0.
