Calgary Boomer
Teitur Thordarson, former Estonian National Team coach '96-'99, taking them from 135th to 70th in the FIFA rankings during his tenure. http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/sports/story.html?id=84dcf7a5-a72b-4da1-9ea0-3261a5c227f0
piltdownman
Well at least the colours match. If he gets the post I'll bring my Estonian Flag to the southside.
Footy
I guess with Davies being dumped by Derby and now a candidate for Scotland job It may be that Colin Miller may soon follow his friend to the Scotish FA.
DarnCherry
Heh, back when everybody wanted Fonseca out as coach, the most common response was "who are the Caps gonna get to replace him, there's not a lot of coaches to choose from" as if there was a shortage of able people to pick from. Now they get rid of Lilley and people are suggesting coaches from around the world will want the job. How times change, in peoples minds anyway. Richard
Well said Krammerhead. Says a lot for the raised profile enjoyed by the renewed Whitecaps under Greg Kerfoot.

Richard
He is an Icelander and coached the Estonian national team from 1996 to '99.

It wasn't a matter of "not a lot of coaches to choose from" it was a matter of the club not having the clout or finances to attract decent candidates. And by the way, Colin Miller was up for the job against Bob Lilly back then.
Calgary Boomer
I don't know if this means anything, but Teiter was in town coaching the residency boys this past week.
Richard
Scoping out the club before making a decision no doubt, if he hasn't already decided.
Calgary Boomer
Done deal...it's Teiter. Lots of people are scratching their heads over this one. Colin Miller is gutted with the decision...it's the second time he's lost out. Can anyone confirm that the new Whitecaps coach doesn't even speak English? Footy
Well I think the Caps were sold on his experience no questioning that but I wonder what extra element he will bring to the club. Lilley had some good leads on young players that would fit with in the clubs pay structure ... I wonder if Teiter can bring in a few players from abroad. youllneverwalkalone
Players from the Baltics provide reasonable value relative to the rest of Europe, so maybe his Estonian experience will provide a lead or two. I guess I feel bad for Miller but I really think it's a good thing to have our managers go abroad and have foreign managers come here. The exchange of ideas is almost always a good thing. Hopefully Colin will land on his feet in the UK somewhere or try to further his career on the European continent or elsewhere. Even though the Davies reign was a bit of a disaster, a premiership side on the old resume can't be a bad thing long term.
Calgary Boomer
So long as Teiter is nothing like Holger, it should be interesting. The guy took a pretty small country (by FIFA standards) to some reasonable results. And if he has a pipeline to either acquire, or place young talent...then the club made the right choice. If he plays the Icelandic version of Lillyball, then they made a huge mistake.
Richard
I think Holger Osiek has proven his worth as a world class coach more than once, whether you like his Germanic personality or not. His latest accomplishmnent is taking the Urawa Reds to the FIFA Club World Cup this year, no small potatos

I'm pretty sure Lenarduzzi has mentioned that Lilley Ball is not what he wants to see in 08 as Lenarduzzi has publicly said that is not the direction of the club in 08 so Teiter or who ever it will be a refreshing change ... Winnipeg Fury
I'm actually impressed the Whitecaps went with the individual with the better resume, as opposed to their buddy Miller. Good move.

Guest Ed
I like the initial statements from the new coach. He wants to play exciting attacking soccer and more importantly is very keen on developing young players from within, something that I had not associated with the Caps in the last few years, although to their credit with the residency program and the SYL affiliates, it appears things have started to change in Vancouver. Gordon
I am pretty excited about what appears to be happening in Vancouver. I think they are raising the bar in Canada. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/sports/story.html?id=cc013248-5102-4f1e-ac1f-4c67a72d3a56&k=63667
