nolando
Just out of curiosity I was looking up the roster for the Jan. 04 camp as Mitchell will be in pretty much the same situation for next January as Yallop was four years earlier. Undoubtedly Canada will be drawn against a minnow and will consider playing a similar-level minnow as a warm-up, and will have few of the European players to draw from during what it is typically a busy month in Europe. Here is who Yallop called in: YALLOP ANNOUNCES ROSTER FOR January 04 BARBADOS FRIENDLY AND TRAINING CAMP Canadian Roster For Florida Training Camp and Barbados Friendly Name Position Club Date of Birth Caps Goals/Shutouts Pat Onstad GK San Jose Earthquakes, MLS 1/13/68 38 15 Greg Sutton GK Montreal Impact, A-League 4/19/77 0 0 Nevio Pizzolitto D Cleveland Force/Montreal Impact 8/26/76 6 0 Mark Watson D Charleston Battery, A-League 9/8/70 69 0 Gabriel Gervais D Montreal Impact, A-League 9/18/76 0 0 Carl Fletcher D Unattached 12/26/71 40 2 Edgar Bartolomeu D New York/New Jersey MetroStars, MLS 9/14/76 0 0 Chris Pozniak D/M Orebro, Swedish Premier 1/10/81 9 0 Nick Dasovic D/M Vancouver Whitecaps, A-League 12/5/68 60 2 Martin Nash M Dallas Sidekicks/Montreal Impact 12/27/75 29 2 Jeff Clarke M Vancouver Whitecaps, A-League 10/18/77 19 1 Ive (Johnny) Sulentic M Vancouver Whitecaps, A-League 12/24/79 0 0 Patrice Bernier M Moss FK, Norwegian Premier 9/23/79 2 0 Carlo Corazzin F Vancouver Whitecaps, A-League 12/25/71 57 10 Dwayne de Rosario F San Jose Earthquakes, MLS 5/15/78 17 3 Let's presume that Canada will follow suit and call in 15 guys again for Florida in January. Given that we should have a chance to see the Norwegian based guys – and that Lars will be given a bye for this camp, here is my prediction for a 15-man roster. In any event, it should be INFINITELY better than the counterpart roster for 2004 before WCQ. That is definitely something to be happy about. Possible January 2008 Roster for Florida Camp Dwayne DeRosario Adrian Serioux Pat Onstad Ante Jazic Kevin Harmse Jack Stewart Jim Brennan Chris Pozniak Gabe Gervais Ali Gerba Stephen Ademolu Olivier Occean Adam Braz Srdjan Djekanovic Antonio Ribeiro Who do you think Mitchell should/will call in? Gian-Luca
I would hope that it is a dual camp with the U23 team & the new Olympic coach. It would be nice for the u23 players to remind themselves who their teammates are heading into the qualifiers in March!
nazzer
The german league is on break in january aren't they? So I would hope that Rob Friend would be at the camp also.

ag futbol
Is this being used as a camp for players who aren’t currently active during their club season? I’d throw Justin Thompson from the Portland Timbers in the mix as well. Other than that, surely there has to be a few others we could put in place of (or in addition to) Jack Stewart and Adam Braz? Toronto MB
The German, Dutch and Scandinavian leagues are on winter break so I don't see why we wouldn't have full access to those players. We should also be able to gather our MLS players. There is also a break in Scotland in mid/early January and no play in Belgium for early Jnuary either. So other than Greece, Spain and England we have lots of available players. So, in theory, I think we should be putting requests into clubs for the following players - we certainly will not get all of them and hence the lengthy list: Lars Hirschfeld Pat Onstad Kenny Stamatopoulos Kevin McKenna Andre Hainault Adrian Serioux David Edgar Marcel De Jong Jim Brennan Richard Hastings Mike Klukowski Josh Simpson Patrice Bernier Daniel Imhof Atiba Hutchinson Issey Nakajima-Farran Dwayne DeRosario Rob Friend Ali Gerba Olivier Occean Could be a good chance to get some of our WCQ familiar with each other. loyola
Let's call some U-23's as well and have a big camp. Then organize a friendly with whoever is available. Lars Hirschfeld Pat Onstad Josh Wagenaar (U-23) Asmir Begovic (U-23) Kevin McKenna Andre Hainault (U-23) Adrian Serioux David Edgar (U-23) Marcel De Jong (U-23) Jim Brennan Richard Hastings Mike Klukowski Nik Ledgerwood (U-23) Attakora-Gyan (U-23) Tyler Hemming (U-23) Josh Simpson Patrice Bernier Daniel Imhof Atiba Hutchinson Issey Nakajima-Farran Dwayne DeRosario Ryan Gyaki (U-23) Will Johnson (U-23) D'Agostino (U-23) JBB (U-23) Jaime Peters (U-23) Rob Friend Ali Gerba Olivier Occean Andrea Lombardo (U-23) Julian Ucello (U-23) Riley O'Neil (U-23) Simeon Jackson (U-23)
Toronto MB
Not a bad idea to bring in some of the more promising U23's. But there is a definite need to bring some chemistry and unity to the WCQ player pool. I guess we will see which development Mitchell and the CSA value more. nolando
Let me say again that this is my prediction rather than my hope for a 15-man camp. I'm working on the premise that a lot of our top players will be given a break (I don't actually agree with this line of thinking, but anyways I find it pretty likely), and I think the Dutch and German League players will probably fall into this group too. Mitchell will give us the (albeit fairly sensible) line about keeping good relations between clubs and the CSA, and I really dont see us bringing very many from our top 15. Occean, maybe, his few minutes seem to suggest that he will see more again in the near future for Canada. Since its the same timing as the camp four years ago and the same general style of coach (as opposed to a flashy new foreigner imposing a new formula), I would expect the kind of fairly laclustre roster that I posted above. Wouldnt it be great, though, to be able to have a "players on the bubble" camp and bring in the borderlines call-ups from Europe as well as only the best prospects for playing time from North America? If that were the case, I would certainly call in Peters, D'Agostino, and Ledgerwood. It would certainly be a much more productive camp than the yawner that will probably come January. There are no FIFA dates in January, so the clubs, even in Germnay and Holland (where they'll have a break) can still decide not to release players. So, most likely, this will be our MLS, Scandinavian and some U-23 from Europe who aren't playing important role for their teams who'll be call. After this camp, for the FIFA dates in February and March we'll have to call all our best players.
