Cheeta
Here we go bhoys. Ten minutes to kickoff, a fine northern rain drenching the park and the grandstand in fine voice.

SCF08
Scotland are poor. 0-1 down and could have been 0-2 after 2 mins and 12 seconds. I sure hope McLeish puts on Kenny Miller or Kris Boyd before Half-Time.

loyola
Scotland with a glorious chance at the end of the half on a corner...Pirlo saved on the line. Still, disgracious call against the italians change the game. Excellent half of football, fun game to watch.

Not that I'm complaining but agreed on both counts. Still, could very well be 1-1 at that half. Heartbreak for Scotland just before the final whistle. Going to be a wicked 2nd half. Greasy pitch, some aggressive defending and tiring legs are all going to add drama to what's left of this fixture.

The Scots cant create anything a part from a couple of corners and Italy are cruising. It doesnt seem like a game that Scotland desperately need to win. The midfield is disgraceful....no movement , no creativity or passing. It's seems like they are just there to stop Italy and make a couple of tackles. loyola
Well, maybe it's me but I enjoyed that half of football and I feel the Scots sense of urgency, but it will be more apparent in the second half.

Well , they are still playing with one striker. They are bloody 0-1 behind and the only thing they need to worry about is scoring 2 goals in 40 mins. And then they are playing 4-5-1 with a Left midfielder/winger as a striker that couldnt a create a single chance from open play in the earlier 50 mins. Put 2 goalscoring real strikers on (Miller + Boyd) and switch McFadden to the left with yellow card McCulloch going off. YEAAH 1-1.....How lucky , ugly and miles offside. Typical Scottish...Unbelievable..

And same situation as in the 1st half as well. Rebound after a save from the keeper. And finally Kenny Miller is coming on after 73mins. Scotland miss for open goal. Great move by Miller/McFadden and McFadden slices it...[V] 10mins + extra time to go..

SCF08
1-2 Italy in the 91st minute. Christian Panucci with the goal. Scotland are out. With a draw the Scots would still have a chance if France would have lost away to Ukraine but now with 1-2 it's over.

Well, I just took another look and the italian run is straight while the scots is coming from the side, might be the right decision to award the FK to Italy after the contact. IMo it might have warranted a no-call.
GRE004
WTF was that?!? [}] The corrupt bastard knocks down the Scot and somehow Scotland is the one who gets penalized!? Then of course the corrupt bastards score off the fre kick. What kind of b*ll#hit officiating is that?! I wonder how much he got to make that call, in the last minute of the stupid game no less. FIFA has turned into a joke, but I guess you get what you pay for. Professional sports is all about $$ so corruption is part of the game (and garbage officiating). Gian-Luca
quote:Originally posted by loyola I don't see how can Scotland can complain? Some still will, that's the nature of the sports fan. Edit - not necessarily referring to Cheeta here, but the colour commentator on the TLN broadcast. I would have been happy with a draw as well, as I would rather have seen the Scots go through than France & now that is impossible. But you are correct, it was a badly officiated game all the way through. Scotland got ripped off in the end, but only after the officials let them back into the game to begin with. Very strange though, the officials seems to be calling everything Scotland's way in the 2nd half until the last few minutes. It's like the Ref got a call from Platini with 5 minutes to go to let him know his assistant screwed Italy twice so it was time for some make up calls. Guest Jeffery S.
I was going for Scotland as it is a nice story, but they were not as sharp as they should have been. Sometimes you felt if they'd pushed a bit more they could have done more. But a goal down vs Italy early is very tough. Also agreed that one linesman was not consistent, the Italy goal was good, the Scotland goal was not on the same call. MacFadden is a hell of a player, what a talent.
