On November 4th Ipswich Town took on their arch rivals Norwich City in Norwich. Max Bell took in the game and his primary focus was former Canadian National team captain and current Tractor Boy's skipper Jason de Vos.

And on a side note, when I was in Ipswich I had a brief chat with Jason de Vos. One topic mentioned was Toronto FC and their fans. He told me that one day he might end up playing for Toronto. My next question was to ask him about the Field Turf. He told me that Field Turf was not something he wanted to play on, especially at a later stage in his career.

Jason's two answers to your questions don't exactly equate with each other.

I know. I was at first shocked that he said he might end up playing for Toronto FC. Very likely he was just saying that without really thinking about it. Or perhaps he is hoping for Toronto FC to change the turf? I have no idea, but I'm just repeating what he said for those that are interested.

Of course there is also the question of whether or not Toronto FC could use a player like him two or so years down the road.

Does anyone know how long his contract at Ipswich runs? And also Ipswich might get promoted. Could Jason de Vos step up to the next level or would he get thrown to the side? If that does happen he might do the same thing that Paul Peschisolido has done, disappear with a lower level team.

Jason's deal is up at the end of the season. I would guess that Town probably wouldn't offer him a contract if promoted and perhaps not if we remain in this division. Manager Jim Magilton has already looked at a similar centre-half called Rob Jones, currently at Hibs in Scotland.

Earlier in the season there were suggestions that De Vos's long-term foot injuries might be causing him problems and could lead to the end of his career. However, last week he said that the surgery he had over the summer had sorted his feet out.

Having seen a couple games in the English Championship as well as a couple MLS games this year, it is definitely not fair to say the MLS is faster.

The Championship moves at a ferocious pace and is extremely physical in nature. In fact when I saw Colchester vs Leicester, the game was so fast that it was detrimental to the entertainment vale as no one had more than 2-3 seconds on the ball.

DeVos in his current form could play a major role in the MLS. 2-3 years down the road, we will have to see if his pace has further deteriorated.

I've seen 1 Ipswich match on Setanta this year and Jason still looks pretty fierce. I'm not sure why he's not playing CB for the MNT. He would make a good mentor for Hainault. I know Jason says he retired from international play but lots of players have unretired.

Did Jason ever come out and say he retired? I just thought he said he wanted to concentrate on his club. Did he ever use the term "retire." I wasn't here so I don't know, but that was the impression I was given.

And as Toronto MB said in his report, Jason did say in an interview lately he might be open to returning.

VP - I think there is no doubt that Jason is neck and neck with McKenna as our best CB. But, like I said in the report I think we will go with McKenna because he will be in better shape come 2010 and potentially still available for 2014.

But I do hear you in terms of his mentoring and leadership availabilities. He IS still an asset to the team, imagine if McKenna goes out with an injury in the first game of the Hex or World Cup and suddenly Hainault has to come in and fill the gap. As much as I value Hainault's development, this is an important campaign and I want to win first and foremost. Jason is obviously the next best things at CB. And either him or Kevin paired with Tam Nsaliwa would be a rock solid back pair.

If he is willing to be a substitute during the campaign than I say we should call him in. His leadership and characater could be a missing link in our current squad. But Mitchell should make it clear that Kev is our number one.

Toronto MB, If the World Cup were in 2008, I think DeVos is still better than Mckenna. But because it's not, you are correct in saying that McKenna needs the playing time to be the anchor of our D (here's hoping his lack of speed doesn't hurt us).

I think DeVos still has a role to play in the run up to WC2010. The question, like you posed, is whether he's interested in being a sub.

Any updates on Tam? Is he ever returning to the fold?

I think McKenna has really matured at Koln and that a lot of Vee's will be pleasently surprised with how much he has rounded out his game. Keep in mind it has been a long time since we saw him play with Canada.

He is definitely faster and more agile than JDV and when I saw him a couple weeks ago in Cologne he made a real impact on the game both at CB and when he was moved to centre forward in the dying minutes.

As far as I know, no further news on Tam. Kind of bewildering.

I have not seen McKenna play for Cologne this year. I only saw him once last season playing for Cottbus. He didn't really impress me the last time I saw him so I definitely keen to see how his game has progressed this season. We definitely need a solid steadying force in the middle of our Back 4 and I definitely hope he provides it.

I would hope that JDV would let the coaching staff know he is interested in being called up again, if needed, even as a sub, especially if his foot issues are behind him. When he was suffering with the foot problems, I could totally see why he would be hesitant to suit up for Canada. IF we qualify for WC2010, it would be nice for JDV to be part of the squad they take to South Africa. He was a very good Captain in his heyday.
