Soju
Haven't had a chance to watch any Eredivisie where I'm living (except for the odd highlight). How do these teams play? I see both Feyenoord and Ajax are playing with two wingers is the attacking going to be mostly crossing and aerial battles from both teams? Feyenoord have a lot of creativity in midfield. We mostly like to play through the middle and reach our world-class striker Roy Makaay. When you give him a chance it's almost always a goal. The 3 behind them will swap positions very often to make it hard for the defenders to mark them , and they will either try to pick eachother out when going forward or Makaay. Leftback Tim de Cler will come up a lot as well and provide crosses. ajax play mostly over the wing as it always have done with the 4-3-3. Suarez has got a lot of pace and he's the biggest cheat ever. Always dives , tries to force penalties. He is also a very good dribbler/goalscorer. Him and Huntelaar can be great together or very poor and selfish , it depends on their day. Albert Luque will keep wide and he's good a nice left foot on him and will provide a lot of crosses for Huntelaar and Suarez. Gabri will come forward as well to win second balls or to get into the box with a 1-2.

Why is that amazing.. Werent you a big fan on his when he was at Barca..? He's doing pretty well here in Holland. He only picks up a lot of yellow/red cards.. http://www.vi.nl/Spelers/Speler/GabrielGarcaDeLaTorre.htm

Well maybe that is unfair, but since I saw him play youth for Barça it seems he has been around for ages (he's just 28-29 still). I think maybe the fact that he was balding at age 22 also makes you think he is older. Gabri was always rash, in the final of the Sydney Olympics vs. Cameroon he was red carded for a very dumb foul in the midfield and that was a big factor in the final result. Was it only 7 years ago...?

SCF08
It's Half-Time and Feyenoord are playing excellent and leading 1-0..[8D]!! Giovanni van Bronckhorst scored after some excellent 1 touch team play. Jonathan de Guzman is also having a good game and had a good chance to score but the keeper saved his left-footed shot. He has received a very stupid yellow card though after trying to hit the bal in the goal with his hand but that's the only bad thing he has done. This game is well worth watching tonight on Setanta Canada. It's been breathtaking. EDIT : The game has finished...dissapointingly as a Feyenoord supporter in 2-2. Feyenoord completely outplayed ajax and from the 3 chances they got they scored twice. ajax got to 1-1 after a Dennis Rommedahl shot which went in nicely and then Jonathan de Guzman made a huge huge error by letting the ball slip from his foot and Siem de Jong scored the 1-2. After that Feyenoord started playing like the first half and got a penalty after Mols was tripped..? Theo Lucius missed it but Jonathan de Guzman who was eager to repay his earlier mistake was there like a flash and scored from the rebound 2-2. And then in the 90th minute Andwele Slory got 2 one on ones in a minute and wasted them both in a terrible fashion. Those were unmissable and he fuc.king missed it twice. Final Result 2-2. 1-0 Van Bronckhorst 1-1 Rommedahl 1-2 De Jong 2-2 De Guzman If your a neutral your really gonna enjoy this match tonight. It was spectacular from start to finish. Cheeta
Ug. Just seen De Jong's goal. Crap free kick spun off the wall, Jonathon tried to control that "gyro" with the outside of his hoof on the edge of the crease and only managed to lay the ball up for De Jong who cannoned it into the net. Unlucky. Especially after a very good hour leading up to De Jong's goal. Very intelligent, entertaining player the younger de Guzman. Unlucky. Cheeta
Pretty damn good match. Certainly no doubt in the commentators (Jock Brown was that?) minds who de Guzman belongs to. He's Canadian from the toes to crown. No doubt about it. Alert goal by Jon-o. Alert combined with some quality. A very decent goal for a rebound on a PK. Great night on Setanta. Aberdeen at Tynecastle next.

Grizzly
Heads up goal by JDG2 but that was a brutal call by the ref to give a penalty. There was no contact with the defender whatsoever and the striker tripped over his own foot in my opinion intentionally, ie. shameless dive. CanadianSwede
Funny thing is that we probably won't talk a lot about JDG2 or Feynoord if he decides to play for The Netherlands. A pity because they look like a great team to watch. Cheers
Grizzly
quote:Originally posted by loyola Grizzly sees diving everywhere. He even once blamed a GK for diving... Not sure what GK you are referring to but thanks for the dig, Loyola. Here is a quote from an article: De Guzman brought his team back. Hedwiges Maduro inadvertantly helped the opponent when he was judged to have fouled Michael Mols, although the Ajax midfielder hardly seemed to have touched Mols in the box. I keep watching the video and can't see any contact. If there is any it is slight and incidental.

lowlander
Apparently the Volkskrant's take on the game is that JDG2 is one of if not the best talent in the Dutch league today - I'm getting this second-hand from a friend here in Den Haag. Cheeta
If that bit of contact justifies a penalty I'm going back to watching NHL hockey. Not interest in watching figure skating or any other sport where the "athletes" are made of tissue paper. Great save on the penalty. Sure, having some gigantic freak-of-nature helps in those instances but still a great save.
