M
The eagle has landed: http://www.rosenborg.info/article/5811 Hirschfeld is in Cluj, and is set to sign a 3,5-year-deal with CFR.
Start fan in exile
Norwegian media are confirming this, quoting the Romanian paper City News: http://fotball.fvn.no/eliteserien/article97520.ece From the looks of it, Lars is being offered an annual salary of 2.3 million NOK (a little shy of 300,000 euros) which can't be much different than what he was making in Trondheim, but the taxes will make a huge difference. I think Lars will find the quality of opposition he faces in the league a little weaker than in Norway, and there will be a lot of pressure to perform. If Cluj, for any reason, fail in their goal of winning the Romanian league the foreign imports will get the blame... As for Trondheim vs. Cluj - I can't compare having never ben in Romania, but Trondheim is a city with a vital cultural life and rich hisotry. Not a great European city, of course, but certainly no provincial backwater.
M
Kr.sund is also a nice, little town. :-) Hirschfeld is certainly signing for Cluj, can't see any reason why the transfer won't go through. Therefore I actually don't have so much more to report in this forum - until another Canadian signs for Rosenborg! PS! http://www.cfrmania.ro/ seems like a good source to find news on Lars from now on. They report he already is given shirt number 13 (http://www.cfrmania.ro/stiri/712/numarul-13-pentru-hirschfeld.htm) and that he has been shopping today (http://www.cfrmania.ro/stiri/713/hirschfeld-la-shopping-in-mall.htm). SouthAfricaOrBust
It could be worse, he could live in Alberta. All the best to Lars!
N-A
Youtube have a few clips of CFR Cluj playing not sure how old the games are though. The Cluj stadium in the clips looks impressive. I think it holds 10,000. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=CFR+Cluj&search=Search

MBZitch
This is cool! I grew up in Cluj, the school I went to was right next door to the stadium. It's crazy to imagine a big CL team like Man U having to play a game there next season. quote:Originally posted by N-A The Cluj stadium in the clips looks impressive. I think it holds 10,000. The old stadium was 10k but they're apparently in the process of rebuilding, currently at 14k and 28k when phase 2 is finished over the summer

Grizzly
From UEFA: http://www.uefa.com/footballeurope/news/kind=2/newsid=643916.html Hirschfeld to help Cluj ambition Monday 7 January 2008 SharePrintDiggSave Lars Hirschfeld in action against Schalke this season (©Getty Images) Romanian league leaders CFR 1907 Cluj are determined to make an impression in the UEFA Champions League should they qualify next season, and have taken their foreign player count to 20 by signing Canada goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld. Experience The 29-year-old, who has signed a contract until summer 2011 after a €1.2m move from Rosenborg BK, was first choice for the Norwegian team in the UEFA Champions League group stage this autumn, playing in their 1-1 draw at Chelsea FC and in both 2-0 wins against Valencia CF. Such experience brought Hirschfeld to the attention of CFR, who lead second-placed FC Rapid Bucure#351;ti by five points at the winter break and will go straight into the UEFA Champions League if they win the Liga 1. Ambition Cluj executive president Iuliu Muresan said: "We insisted on this player. We wanted him because he has plenty of Champions League experience and I am sure that he will help us win the title and not make fools of ourselves in the Champions League. We want to compete for the title each year and to play an important role in the Champions League." Portuguese flavour Meanwhile, relegation-threatened CS Pandurii Lignitul Târgu Jiu have taken a leaf out of Cluj's book by adding a Portuguese flavour to their club. Not only have they appointed former Portugal coach Joaquim Teixeira to the helm in place of Eugen Neagoe, they have also signed seven players from the Portuguese Liga.
