SCF08
quote:Originally posted by masster What is going on with AZ this year? They need a win badly. They sold two of their most prolific strikers this summer and the two strikers they bought to replace them arent firing in the goals. They also tried to sign Afonso Alves on the last day of the transfer market but couldnt agree a fee. AZ offered 12 million Euro's but Heerenveen wanted 17. AZ also missed out on signing Alexandre Pato , Sanli Tuncay and Angel di Maria so they couldnt bring in the big names. They are still playing great football though. They create a lot of chances but the finishing is letting them down. Yesterday as well against Heerenveen and in the 92nd minute Afonso Alves scores the 0-1 after being far far in a offside position AZ will be fine though. One win and the confidence will be back. There are also very important players coming back after long injuries (David Mendes da Silva , Stijn Schaars) and they are now on 95%.
Canuck Oranje
I don't see Afonso Alves staying in Holland past January even thought it would be nice if he did considering that Heerenveen is the Dutch team I follow. De Graafschap is also becoming an interesting story. They seem to be uncharacteristically successful so far. Then when you consider that their U-17 team won the Varseveld's international U-17 tournament this spring against some of the best teams in the Netherlands and the world, it makes you wonder what their future might be. Mind you, I can't see Doetinchem sustaining a quality team for long. Will Johnson is there too.

I think a team like Manchester City , Aston Villa , Sevilla , Roma would be perfect for him. And about the Varsseveld tourney...De Graafschap lost in the final actually against Sporting Lisbon but only 0-1 . But still great with Feyenoord , Schalke 04 , PSV , ajax , Shakthar Donetsk , a regional Varsseveld youth team , Pão de Açúcar and Ichiritsu Funabashi all present. I only miss a North American participant in the tourney.. The Africans mostly dont send teams over for U17 they do send U19s over regularly. De Graafschap always had some good youth players with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Tim Bakens as most notable players of recent times. It would be great if Canada would send a team over for these kind of tournaments. There are lots of these in Holland and all the big clubs come and join and give their youth players experience playing against a diversity of teams. A Canadian U19 team would be perfect..?? Would be great for them to play against these sides.. Terborg Toernooi Participants U19 : Boca Juniors , Atletico Mineiro Chelsea , Zambia U19 , Feyenoord , ajax , De Graafschap , PSV Doetinchemtoernooi U19 : Vitesse , Glasgow Rangers , HSV , Hertha BSC , Bolton Wanderers , FC Twente , Anderlecht , AZ Roda JC Youth Tournament U19 : Feyenoord , Roda JC , Hertha BSC , America MG , Lierse SK , Aalborg BK , MFK Ruzmeberok , Allemania Aachen
Canuck Oranje
My mistake. My memory on that tournament wasn't as good as I thought. Still making the final is impressive given the participants. Few people know this outside of Brazil but Pao de Acucar EC is one of the best youth systems in Brazil and we don't need to say anything about most of the other clubs involved. I agree about these tournaments. They are very high quality. As for a Canadian team entering these tournaments, perhaps once Toronto FC has their youth system operational, they could send a team. I doubt there are any U-17 teams at the moment that would be competitive except maybe the national U-17 team. quote:Originally posted by SCF08 Your right , the only way Alves will be staying in Holland is when AZ sign him. Also the Dutch National Team could be real possibility because Van Basten isnt going to be there for much longer. And then Van Basten takes the <s>ajax</s> job. VPjr
today's Roda v Ajax match was highly entertaining. I love Setanta. Best money I spend each month. The more I watch Eredvisie matches, the more I enjoy it. The quality of players is clearly not as high as in England, Spain, Italy or Germany but the quality of play is quite good and the majority of matches that I have watched so far this year have featured fairly wide open play, with lots of scoring chances. There is little of the stifling defense that has made me less interested in watching Serie A in recent years. I look forward to next week's matches on Setanta. I'd like to see a Feyenoord match some day soon.

It's Feyenoord vs ajax =scum=020... and Jonathan de Guzman will probably be playing if he doesnt get injured or anything. He's leading the Eredivisie footballer of the year standings (along with a couple other) and he's scored 4 goals in 9 games already this season. The Dutch Classic..[8D] Game is not live on Setanta (I've checked it) but it is on at prime time 20:30..! As a Feyenoord supporter I've been looking forward to this game for weeks already Just a shame that Marcel de Jong was taken off at half-time yesterday for Roda wasn't it..? I didnt see that game but I heard he was at fault for the first goal. And that he did set up the Roda goal with a corner which he'll be doing for Canada in the future..[8D]
