Canadians abroad on TV this week

Since soccerTV.com no longer serves Canada, I will no longer be compiling a "Canadians abroad on TV this week" list.

Guidelines for this thread

[*]In this thread post match updates on all Canadians abroad for August 31 - September 6, 2007.

[*]If you find updates posted in some other thread or on the other Voyageurs forum then post them here as well, but be sure to credit the original poster.

[*]If there is news that is particularly significant (eg. someone scores a big goal, someone gets injured, etc.) then feel free to begin a new thread on that topic in order to draw greater attention or start a discussion, but also post that news here.

[*]Some comments on news posted in this thread are okay, but let's not let this thread go off into a long discussion. If the news already appears in another thread (as per the previous bullet) then post your comments in that other thread, otherwise if you want to say something significant or if it is likely to generate replies then begin a new thread.

McCallum is subbed on in the 70th minute for Weymouth in a 2-2 draw at home to Cambridge.

Bernier is serving his suspension and Simpson still not fit for FCK. They tied 2-2 at TuS Koblenz.

No Bonifacio for Cambuur as they lose 4-2 at Den Bosch.

Saturday, yes! Something to read about besides the CSA.

David Edgar on the bench for Newcastle.

Iain Hume starting for Leicester against Plymouth.

Jason De Vos starting for Ipswich while Peters is back on the bench. A good sign I would say.

Asmir staring for Bournemouth.

Rhian Dodds starting for Kilmarnock in Scotland.

Neither Canadian playing in the Greek League will be participating this opening weekend. Tomasz Radzinski will not dress for Xanthi's match at home to PAOK today as his manager feels he has not practised enough with the club to be effective. AEK's and Tam Nsaliwa's match away to Veroia has been postponed to September 26, as AEK will be playing Sevilla on Monday for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier.

Tyler Hughes played and was subbed out late as Oster fell to Norrkopping on Thurs night, 1-0. As badly as they are doing this year they are still ahead of four other sides, and the midtable is within range in the Swedish 2nd tier.

Rosenborg continues with the mediocre season as they can only tie Stromsgodset 1-1 today in Norway, Lars goes the whole way.

Lars was good tonight; he held Rosenborg in the game as Strømsgodset came out strong, but RBK took over the game after Koné gave them the 1-0 lead shy of 20 min in. The equaliser came late on a free kick just outside the box - Lars did not have a chance to save it.

Sandro Grande's Molde won 2-0 away at HamKam to solidify their place atop the Adeccoliga, 5 points clear of 2nd place HamKam. Grande is still not back from injury and will have a tough time fighting his way back onto a team that is currently firing on all cylinders.

According to BBC match trackers Edgar is on the bench for Newcastle, Stalteri is presumably in the stands for Tottenham.

Good for Edgar, but Stalteri could be in tough trying to see action other than in the early rounds of the Carling and FA Cup. I see that Dawson is back in the game day squad now, so Rocha can provide cover for both centre back and right fullback. Also, Chimbonda seems pretty durable.

Good for Edgar...

What's also encouraging for Edgar is that Newcastle sold Paul Huntington, who was Edgar's direct competition as the "up-and-coming centre back". The only thing I'm worried about is that Newcastle took in a couple of central defenders (Rozehnal, Cacapa) and still have Taylor (young and much more hyped than Edgar) and Ramage (also young, but plays Right back too). I almost wished that they had loaned him out to get regular first team play.

Derosario and Onstad both go 90 minutes as Houston tie KC 1-1. Derosario gets the assist on the Dynamo goal.

Adrian Serioux an unused sub for Dallas, as they are thrashed 4-0 by DC United.

Kevin Harmse plays 90 for the LA Galaxy, as they allow 2 late goals and choke again, losing 2-1 to RSL. Neither Stewart, nor Jazic are on the rosters.

Asmir Begovic

Bournemouth 0 v 1 Port Vale

Luke Rodgers scored with eight minutes remaining to earn Port Vale a 1-0 win at Bournemouth - their first victory of the season.

Rodgers ran clear of the Bournemouth defence to smash home a right-foot shot to leave Bournemouth still looking for their first home point and first home goal.

Vale had plenty of chances to win more easily but Danny Whitaker, Shane Tudor and David McGoldrick all spurned opportunities.

In addition Bournemouth's Canadian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic made smart saves to deny Whitaker and on-loan McGoldrick as Bournemouth struggled to cope.

Bournemouth had chances of their own and Garreth O'Connor should have done better when heading a first-half opening straight at goalkeeper Joe Anyon from 10 yards.

Deadline-day signing Lee Bradbury had a header saved by Anyon diving to his left and then could only shoot against the on-rushing goalkeeper when played clear in the second-half.

Deep into injury time Josh Gowling could only shoot straight at Anyon when he had time and space to grab an equaliser.

Marcel de Jong played the full 90 minutes for Roda JC in a 5-3 away vicotry against VVV Venlo.

Will Johnson came on for De Graafschap in the 70th minute away to FC Utrecht. By the time he came on De Graafschap were 2-0 behind and now with a couple minutes left the score is 2-2...

- Jonathan de Guzman and Jacob Lensky are League leaders with Feyenoord.

- Marcel de Jong is 5th with Roda JC

- Will Johnson is 9th with De Graafschap

All Canucks in Holland have made great starts.

In Norway Occean went 90 as Lillestrom drew away to Viking 1-1, with Brann winning that puts Occean's side three points off the lead with 7 game remaining.

Lillestrom by the way are in the semis of the Norway cup, going against Staebek the last week of September. The other pairing is weak, meaning they have a good shot at winning it this year in Norway as all rivals from here on in are on paper inferior.

No Canucks for Tromso (should we be seeing Ademolu?).

Aguiar's side lost their third straight, not sure yet if he played for Gondomar in Portugal's 2nd tier.

Klukowski played 90 in a losing cause as Bruges fell away to Standard Liege 2-1. Standard leads and Bruges is five back in 6th spot after five matches.

Julian Uccello scored both goals and played the entire match as Rivarolese defeated Derthona 2-1 in Serie D Girone A today.

Rocco Placentino is injured and therefore didn't play in Gubbio's 0-1 loss to Cuoiopelli in Serie C2 Girone B action today.

David Masciantonio was an unused sub as Benevento defeated V. Lamezia 1-2 today in Serie C2 Girone C.

Tam Nsaliwa is listed where I look as a starter for AEK as they try to get back from the 2-0 first leg against Sevilla. Goes at 8:45 PM.

Sevilla is probably exhausted emotionally and physically, they flew to Greece last Monday, were to play on the Tuesday but did not when Puerta died, flew back late, on Thursday I think or Friday morn flew to Monaco, I am not sure if they went back to Sevilla after but in any case are now back in Greece. They did not look fresh the 2nd half vs. Milan on Friday, mind you Milan was a tough test for them. So if AEK can just hold on in defence and get a goal, they may have be able to tie it up in regular time. Though Sevilla with a goal will surely go through.
