vancanman
Toronto Ruffrider hit the nail on the head with his idea. During the height (or low) of Kevin Pipe's reign of terror, a banner was made with a drawing of a pipe in a red circle with a line through it with the words "pipe out". It was displayed in Edmonton in the WCQ against Australia and it didn't survive the first half. Some security wanker yoinked it. Anyway, we must must must come up with clever, to the point, easy to read banners for the Costa Rica match. Being here in Vancouver, I'm about four time zones away from a real stadium, so I won't get to see the team play for quite a long time. I will try to come up with some ideas, as well as chants. Someone else said something about the timing of Mr. Linford's resignation, just as the men's team is looking the best it's been for a long time. That's very true, and yes, the players will be distracted, or threaten to strike as they did against Australia, and they'll play crappy and we won't qualify for the World Cup when we have the best chance we've had in years. I feel sick.

Again...where are we getting this idea from? The players have been un-impressed with the CSA bureacracy for years, I don't see why it would be a distraction when World Cup Qualifying begins in about 10 months from now (at which point a new President will likely be in place who may be just as promising or just as useless as those in the past). And some of the players seemed to disagree with his plan to bring in a different coaching staff to Hart & Mitchell. I liked Colin Linford because he seemed to want to get things done (if not always the right thing), he seemed in tune with the fans (that last interview he did strongly suggests he read this board) and I liked his bias towards the men's national team. But I'm not ready to jump off a bridge either because he's gone.
vancanman
Point taken. I was just really surprised to read about his resignation, so I didn't think how long it was going to be until we might have a replacement to either be encouraged by or sickened by. However, I'm sure the CSA in general is a distraction to the players. They are constantly doing stupid things. For example: During qualification for (I believe it was the 1990) World Cup, the visiting teams were allowed to practise at Swangard, but our own team wasn't. Just general ineptitude and seemingly doing anything possible to discourage people from following the team, discourage the media from covering the team, etc. Whenever I think about the CSA, my blood boils. Gian-Luca
I hear ya. Though I thought we might have gotten his resignation when Simoes didn't get hired so I wasn't too surprised. Now that the U20 WC is out of the way & Mitchell has been hired the timing did seem a little bit strange, but I guess whatever argument is brewing over Nykamp was the last straw for him. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say tomorrow - and what reply there will be from the CSA in response - if any!
john tv
Nykamp is of German descent and we all know they don't take any crap, so I guess it is all about some kind of power struggle and obvious philosophy for the future of Canadian soccer. Luis_Rancagua
Guys, this is more than a protest banner. This should be the start of a new movement that will finish-off the monopoly of the incompetent CSA. Let's start a new association. Let's also change the name to the Canadian Football Association. Luis_Rancagua
What I'm talking about is a protest against as those corrupt morons of the CSA. Let's send them a message that we [the fans] are not going take this crap anymore.
Varsity Tyler
If we make a banner then it has to be quick and to the point: "The Voyageurs - for country and players only" "Stand for Canada. Sit for the CSA" "CSA: 1912-2007" "Osieck for President" ; ) any other suggestions?
vancanman
That was my point exactly Varsity Tyler. They have to say how we feel, and they have to be simple enough that the dough heads at the CSA and the knuckle scrapers at TSN et al can understand. Soju
VT good banner ideas, the first two nail it. I hope someone in TO puts those up in big letters.
Saviola7
If it ends up somebody is too lazy to make a banner, here is a modified version of "Another brick in the wall" by Pink Floyd We don't need no T Director We don't need no CEO We don't need no President Linford leave these things alone ... Hey! Linford, leave those things alone All in all you're just another brick in the wall But only of course if the sarcasm would be recognised. Feel free to vote for this song in the songbook

Toronto Ruffrider
The Anti-CSA Massive: Option 1: Qu'est ce que vous chantez? Nous chantons le CSA suce! Option 2: CSA...SUCKS!... CSA...SUCKS!!! This one would work well with a broad fan base in the stadium.

vancanman
"Do away with the CSA" If you stretch the syllables a bit, it works to the tune of "Do You Know the Way to San Jose". Also "You can't spell FIASCO with CSA is brilliant.
