shooters
One of the three quarterfinal games will be played at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan on Monday August 6th at 7pm. The Open Canada Cup is open to every professional and amateur soccer team in Canada. This year, teams from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia are competing for the Open Canada Cup trophy and $10,000 prize. Teams that have won the tournament in the past have included the Windsor Border Stars and London City from the Canadian Soccer League, and for the first time an amateur team won in 2006 where the Ottawa St. Anthony Italia shocked the Toronto Lynx 2-0 in the championship game. This year’s tournament marks the 5th anniversary of the coveted Open Canada Cup. This is the most exciting action you will see on the pitch, with a One Game Elimination format. The tournament has already experienced a few shocking upsets, with the underdog North York Astros defeating the heavily favored Serbian White Eagles in a nail-biting penalty kick round and two-time Cup champion, Windsor Border Stars defeating heavily favored St. Catharines Wolves, proving again that the Stars save their best games for the tournament. In 2007, the amateur teams did not fare well against the top professional teams in Canada, with GS United and Jean Talon losing on Friday. On Monday, the Ontario Soccer Centre will host Vaughan’s own Italia Shooters, who have clearly become the best team in Ontario with only one loss in the Canadian Soccer League’s regular season. They will be up against the underdog North York Astros who have handed the Shooters their only loss this season. In other action, the Final’s host, London City will travel to Trois-Rivieres to face the Attak and Windsor heads to Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke for a match against the Portuguese Supra. Tickets for Monday’s game go on sale Monday July 30th at 12pm. Call 905-564-4660 or email gameday@italiashooters.ca The game starts at 7pm at the Ontario Soccer Center which is located at 7601 Martin Grove Rd. in Vaughan Advance tickets are only 10$ for this Open Canada Cup game
hamiltonfan
It would be nice to see the winners of the Canada Open Cup battle TFC, Impact and Whitecaps for a real national championship. This might be the best way of doing it rather than the CSL trying to forces the USL teams and TFC to play in the open cup. Ofcourse it would be nice to have reps from all provinces in the open cup to do this.
