Looks like they are trying to build a strong side to go straight back up

Veteran striker Paul Peschisolido has joined Luton Town on a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old moves to Kenilworth Road after helping take Derby County into the Premier League.

The former Birmingham City and Fulham man played for an hour in Derby's play-off final victory over West Brom at Wembley in May.

Peschisolido has made more than 500 appearances in English football in a career spanning 15 years, including spells at Stoke, West Brom, Sheffield United, QPR and Norwich.

During that time he has scored 136 goals, 24 of them coming during three years at Pride Park.

He becomes manager Kevin Blackwell's sixth signing of the summer after the arrival of Dave Edwards, Alan Goodall, Darren Currie, Paul Furlong and Chris Perry.

It would have been nice for him to have seen some Premiership action with Derby, but this is ultimately better for him anyway. I am thinking he could score about 8-10 goals for Luton this season.

tough call, really... i mean it was easy to say that it would be "ultimately better" for Peters to be at Ipswich rather then Chelsea, but what does "ultimately better" mean to a guy Pesch's age and at that stage of his career...i'm surprised he's not in the championship still with a promotion contender...unless he's got one foot in the door for management with Luton or something...what else could make it better in the long wrong for Pesch to drop doen a division from where he should be able to play

He claimed in one of the articles that he had offers from Championship sides but he felt more comfortable with Luton.

Hatters go into administration

Luton Town have been placed into administration. Insolvency specialists, The P&A Partnership have confirmed the news after the club's directors were advised the Hatters could not continue functioning in their current state.

P&A Partnership spokesman Brendan Guilfoyle said: "Administration will give the club breathing space and an opportunity to restructure its finances. "Our aim is to maximise the value of the company's assets and to place the club on a firm footing for the future."

Hatters face Peschisolido heartache

View GalleryPlayer's calf injury could rule him out for the season

Paul Peschisolido's Luton career – and indeed his professional career – could be over.

Hatters boss Kevin Blackwell gave that gloomy prognosis on his summer signing at today's press conference ahead of Town's trip to Walsall.

Peschisolido will see a specialist tomorrow morning to determine the extent of a calf muscle injury and then a decision will be taken on whether he needs an operation.

Blackwell said: "If he has the operation Paul is finished at the football club, it'll be the end of his season. He has ruptured the inside muscle of his calf. It stops you power running, which you need in today's game."

He added that if the operation went ahead, it would take the player - who at 36 is in the final throws of his professional career - a further year to recover. The Canadian signed on a one-year deal this summer.

The boss stated earlier this month that he believed the Walsall game was a realistic target for the striker.

But now the manager was clearly upset by the latest setback: "You've only got to look at what Paul Peschisolido has done for us in a couple of games to show you want he brings to us," he said.
