SilverSamurai
I think we could and should easily use the "This is our House" chant you hear at TFC games. It's easy simple and rocks the place. But yes, we need more songs!

john tv
I really feel I can take a lot of credit for this song business. Umpteen years ago on the other board and even this board I kept on preaching this song business. I constantly kept it up and some times I really thought somebody would tell me to get lost or shut up. Anyway here we are and what do we sing.It has to be a song that will last at least 2 or three minutes in melody and the lyrics well if it is an existing one than let's find one. It has to be of very historic value it has to be really meaningful and have a great Canadian punch and full of Canadian history. So I leave it up to you guys to find these songs, I am sure there are some around. I can assure you it will be amazing and oh so powerful.
Danny Boy
Why not just take a famous classical melody like Ode to Joy or something like that and just add related lyrics so it's simple for people to catch on to it. At first people may go 'la la la' but after a few rounds they'll probably pick it up quickly because they already know the melody.
SilverSamurai
Toronto FC chants, but well the massive and "this is our house" are in it. Another "TFC Massive" video.
CanadianSwede
I will start thinking of some good lyrics! I am dedicated to this cause! Cheers
mcaout
I really like what the St. Pauli fans do in this video. I think it shows what 100-200 people can do to up the atmosphere in a place, although this example might be from an indoor arena (might make them loader). I'm not really advocating any particular song they do, just to take their energy in this video as a model because of similar numbers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHLWclMs_Pw One song I would suggest is Riot Squad by D.C. punk/reggae band Bad Brains. The song would be good for intimidation in the same vain as "send you home in a Kingston/E Town ambulance." A big section with drums and claping would make the course of that song really good live. The only hitch is I think it lends it self more to massive ends like the Kop more then a small section. Here's a live example of 'Riot Squad' and Bad Brains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkyDeqUVUBs Generally I think what's already been posted and what we've been known to sing at games is a great start and hope for more and more input from everyone. Niagara Hammer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_leaf_forever for reference How about something to the tune "The Maple Leaf forver" I know the lyrics are a bit too British. I like the tune because it is the March Off used often used by the Army. Replace In days of yore from Brintains shore, Wolfe, the Dauntless hero came An Planted Firm Britannias flag On Canada's fair domaine With someting like In days of yore from Europe's shore The beutiful game did come And planted now the Canadian Flag It is our fair domain Here may it wave, our boast, our pride, And joined in love together, The (insert a few names of players instead of thistle, shamrock, rose) entwine The maple leaf Forever Or we could use the alternate words the were written for CBC Metro Morning O, land of blue unending skies, Mountains strong and sparkling snow, A scent of freedom in the wind, O'er the emerald fields below. To thee we brought our hopes, our dreams, For thee we stand together, Our land of peace, where proudly flies, The Maple Leaf forever. Chorus: Long may it wave, and grace our own, Blue skies and stormy weather, Within my heart, above my home, The Maple Leaf forever! From East and West, our heroes came, Through icy fields and frozen bays, Who conquered fear, and cold, and hate, And their ancient wisdom says: Protect the weak, defend your rights, And build this land together, Above which shine the Northern Lights, And the Maple Leaf forever! Oh, Maple Leaf, around the world, You speak as you rise high above, Of courage, peace and quiet strength, Of the Canada I love. Remind us all our union bound, By ties we cannot sever, Bright flag revered on every ground, The Maple Leaf forever! (Chorus)
SilverSamurai
Ok, for Maple Leaf forever you'd DEFINITELY have to pass out a song book. Theirs like no way most people are going to remember that, let alone the French part. I'd say a good test would be maybe do the chorus, and then grow it from there... Cooks
I'll just pull what I said about the "Maple Leaf Forever" on the U20 WC thread: quote:You all know how I feel, you can't go wrong with "The Maple Leaf Forever" I remember posting this back in 2005: In day of yore, from Canada's shore, scores of Voyageurs set sail. To cheer en masse and raise a glass, for Canada's fair domain. So here it flies, our boast our pride, We join in voice together. To sing as one with devotion, The Maple Leaf Forever. (Chorus) The Maple Leaf, our emblem dear. The Maple Leaf Forever. May heaven bless and save our team. The Maple Leaf Forever. --------------------- I must admit, back then, the words were less pc. The third line used to read "To squeeze a lass and raise a glass..." I figure just the chorus would be fine for most occasions. I promise, I won't post this again...really...no, I mean it this time...
Soju
To squeeze a lass and raise a glass is funny, screw PC. I think it's about time there's an official supporters chant every other country has one. This one looks good.
Gordon
I think that we shoudl celebrate who we are (Canadians). I've often thought that taking the first verse of Led Zepplin's Immigrant Song Ah, ah, (This part shrieked by Cheeta a capella) We come from the land of the ice and snow, (True) from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. (Ok, not everywhere) The hammer of the gods (really is this not intimidating?) Will drive our ships to new lands, (Do we ever play at home?) To fight the horde, singing and crying: (eh! hey! does this fit or what!) Modify the rest as one sees fit. Can you imagine celebrating our nordicity! The Brazilians would **** their pants and Jeffrey would renounce his canadian citizenship (Lol, just teasing Jeffrey)! Or, something along the line of You'll Never Walk Alone - the words not really soccer related, but very canadian - would be to simply sing Sloan's The Rest of my Life changing a couple of words: One thing I know about The rest of my life I know that I’ll be Living it in Canada to something like One thing I know about The rest of my life I know that I’ll be Shouting out for Canada the last line shouted out rather than sung and more loudly than the rest. Admit it, even Ed would sing. Just having a bit of a lark with the side comments. Serious about the two songs always striking me as good potential for those so inclined to sing a bit. john tv
I always thought and felt very strongly that this thing has to be orchestrated by the TFC management. I simply would get in contact with the various supporters groups and tell them to get there about 2 hours earlier. Hand out the lyrics and just practice till we all have it down pat. We need a conductor on that field and a very good sound system to make sure we can follow properly. The drinks of at least three will be on the house and we will sound better than any other group anywhere else in the world. It will be so magnificent it will make you cry or at least some tears,I promise.
Soju
Or the mods could just organize a song contest for official Voyageurs supporters chant and people could submit their favourites and vote to pick one. Seems like harmless fun to me and could add something solid to the culture of the group.
Niagara Hammer
A song contest would be great idea. Suggested rules 1) Tune must be recognizeable. (How many here can read music?)(Eg. O Canada, Maple leaf forever, We will rock you (the clapping and stomping would be great), Ode to joy, Hockey night in Canada, American Woman,) 2) Must be reasonably short, 12 - 18 lines. if it workds we could add versus latter. (the maple leaf forever that I posted as an example is way tooooo long) 3) Must be able to be sung by a 10 year old with his/her mother flipping out. any other suggestions for rules. We should probably stipulate that the song can't be a traditional "Hockey" song, just to carve out our own niche.
Juby
I don't know abou that, I mean we are canadians, we should be more concerned with showing some style internationally then seperating ourselves from hockey internally, it's not like anybody except the americans will recognize hockeyness. Danny Boy
The Tragically Hip is a great place to start for Canadiana... Fireworks... Bill Spiers
And Danny Boy's post reminds me to re-post this earlier suggestion: A new version of 'O Canada' to the tune of Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) Oh Can-a-da, the fans, the fans are calling From New-found-land, to beautiful BC The Maple Leaf, forever proudly waving For you're our team, from sea to shining sea We're here for you, when summer's in the meadow And when our land is hushed and white with snow We'll cheer for you, in sunshine or in shadow Oh Can-a-da, Oh Canada, we love you so We'll follow you, from St. John’s to Vancouver And overseas from Scotland to Japan We will not rest, until the game is over And Can-a-da, are winning once again We're here for you, when summer's in the meadow And when our land is hushed and white with snow We'll cheer for you, in sunshine or in shadow Oh Can-a-da, Oh Canada, we love you so Oh Can-a-da, Oh Canada, we love you so
Danny Boy
Just thinking... would this be better served in the Voyageurs section? After all these chants wouldn't be just for the men's team would they?
